I cut to the chase and managed put myself out of the running before a date could take place.
I was at a nightclub with some friends and soon found myself in a conversation with a lovely young lady. Everything was going along quite nicely.
Whether it was the beer, the loud music - or a combination of both - I was having trouble picking up what the girl was saying.
"That's an interesting accent," said I. "I can't place it."
"It's a speech impediment," she replies cooly.
That was the point where I learned that there are some gaffes you just can't recover from.

I don't really do dates. I've found the only way to meet decent girls in China is through friends. No one-on-ones, just go out as a group and you're just as likely to get something at the end of the night. More fun too and costs a hell of a lot less.
The couple of times I've taken girls out for dinner it's just been boring. 'No I don't drink, my cheeks might turn red'
I like to get my friend to suss out what kind of girl they are first before I waste a whole evening. Better a fun girl who speaks no English than a dull one who speaks like the queen and spends the night asking if you like Chinese food, why you came to China, can you help me improve my English etc etc |
