sure grampus, with a car it's a given but most people don't have one and gifu etc is therefore not so easily accessible and certainly isn't cheap to get to.

Brisbane is quite similar in that you neeeeed a car to get around, but there are many, many parks in Brisbane that are really big nature reserves - you can go to them and forget you are in a city. I can never do that in Nagoya - the parks are a joke, and as a previous poster said, invariably filled with the little blue shacks of homeless people.

If you have a look at the bus routes in and out of Nagoya you don't necessarily need a car to get around.

Mind you Toyota is way out on the subway....train lines so I wouldn't recommend the commute from there.
