I'd say that the delay is much more likely to be because it is Ramadhan and things are going in slow motion. And it also depends on the efficiency of your employer. So, I would expect that the flu is the least of the causes...
Desultude's employer's HR is rather notoriously slow all the time, but things get done eventually.

Stupid Question: What is EID?
And also did Nizwa update the website of the school to reflect the late start date? The website for the college of technology in Shinas is still showing a September 5th start date. |

Eid is the celebrations that marks the end of Ramadan.
Wikipedia:
Eid ul-Fitr or Id-ul-Fitr (Arabic: عيد الفطر Īdu l-Fiṭr), often abbreviated to Eid, is a Muslim holiday that marks the end of Ramadan, the Islamic holy month of fasting. Eid is an Arabic word meaning "festivity", while Fiṭr means "to break the fast" (and can also mean "nature", from the word "fitrah"); and so the holiday symbolizes the breaking of the fasting period. It is celebrated starting on the first day of the Islamic month of Shawwal.
Eid ul-Fitr is a three day celebration and is sometimes also known as the "Smaller Eid" (Arabic: العيد الصغير al-īdu ṣ-ṣaghīr) as compared to the Eid ul-Adha that lasts four days and is called the "Greater Eid" (Arabic: العيد الكبير al-īdu l-kabīr).
Eid ul Adha follows the Haj.
I have been watching the website of Nizwa University, and I haven't seen much in the way of updates. It strikes me that the websites are rather neglected. |

No need to be shocked VS. This happens all the time in the ME.

Of course, the truly shocking thing is if everything ran logically and according to plan. |

By the way, the rumor going around today was that the opening of the school year might be delayed even further perhaps till the end of the semester. This is totally unsubstantiated gossip, but its fun to spread. |
I heard that rumour today as well, from an Omani professor and admin member. Too much, really! |

Just to put things in perspective regarding precautions over H1N1, the annual Muscat Festival has just been cancelled for 2010. This will upset a few given it is a money spinner because of the large number of tourists that come for it. Infection rate is climbing and unfortunately the death toll is now 16 |

Ministerial decision on schools reopening issued
Our Correspondent, September 16, 2009 'The Week"
Yahya bin Saud al Sulaimi, Education Minister, has issued ministerial decision No. 240/2009 amending ministerial decision No. 222/2009 related to amending the timing of study, examinations and vacations of the academic year 2009-10.
Article One of the ministerial decision replaces the text of Article One of the ministerial decision No. 222/2009 as follows:
Studies for students in grades 11 and 12 for the schools year 2009-10 at government schools and special education schools will resume on October 3.
Studies for students from grades 8-10 for the school year 2009-10 at government schools and special education schools will resume on October 17.
Studies for students from grades 5-7 for the school year 2009-10 at government schools and special education schools will resume on October 31.
Studies for students from grades 1-4 for the school year 2009-10 at government schools and special education schools will resume on November 7.
The decision pointed out that private schools may use the above-mentioned decision for guidance for their study timings.
They may also start study as per ministerial decision No. 222/2009, which states that classes will resume on September 26 subject to all preventive measures in the H1N1 manual being observed.
The Education Ministry has intensified its efforts during the delay period in the school year 2009-10 to ensure the health and safety of students.
A main committee as well as sub committees at different education directorates have been formed. Besides taking preventive measures to control H1N1, the ministry has published an H1N1 manual that highlights how to deal with patients suffering from H1N1. |
