I just thought, maybe the title should be famous ex-EFL teachers.
How many can you name. Of the top of my head I believe rowlings(of Harry potter fame) and tony Parsons used to be EFL teachers. Can anyone add to the list? |

There is a boring British novelist in Italy, but I forget his name.
Didnt George W. Bush teach english in Morocco?
I think Capergirl is going to be famous. Where is she? How come the posts that she starts flourish while mine drop away?

One of my students told me Jiang Zemin, former Chinese leader, once taught English at his highschool. Famous or what? |

RE. JK Rowlings--some teachers that I used to work with in Prague moved on to Portugal, where apparently they taught at the same school as Ms. Harry Potter. Years later, but still, imagine sitting in the same room, using the same materials... WOW! A brush with greatness.

Then there's Anthony Burgess, who taught English at Birmingham University and Banbury Grammar School in England before going to teach
in Malaysia and Brunei.

Also Barry Unsworth, who taught English in Greece and Italy while honing his skills as a writer. He won the Booker prize with Sacred Hunger about 10 or 15 years ago. |

I would like to be a rich ex-EFL teacher, minus the fame. Fame sucks, but I would sure like to have the opportunity to have some fun with the money that comes with it!
Getting back to JK Rowling for a second, not only is she probably the most famous past ex-EFL teacher, she is also easily the richest ex-EFL teacher. In fact, she is the 35th richest person in the world! Is she single? If so, does she have a thing for starship captains?
Cheers,
Kirk |

Dear James_T_Kirk,
Sorry Captain:
"THE new husband of J K Rowling, author of the best-selling Harry Potter children's books, has not yet decided whether to resume his medical career after his secret marriage to one of Britain's richest women.
Dr Neil Murray, 30, married the author on Boxing Day (2001) at their recently purchased Scottish home in a ceremony attended by 15 close family and friends.
The anaesthetist resigned from his pounds 32,000-a-year post as a senior house officer at St John's Hospital, Livingstone, after meeting J K Rowling and has no immediate plans to resume his career, according to friends of the couple.
He is expected to accompany his wife as she travels the world to promote her writing career, which has already amassed her a pounds 220 million fortune."
And the marriage is still going strong, according to all reports. Looks like Dr. McCoy (aka Bones) would have had a better chance.
Regards,
John |
