I have already signed a contract at 12 000 riyal. I have a BA, a CELTA and over 5 years experience teaching in South Africa, Korea and Singapore.
So if I can get that don't accept the contracts like the one below. It is like Korea, people are willing to work for what I got paid 3 years ago and now the salaries are not going up and matching price rises! Please guys for the greater good of the Saudi market do not take these contracts!!!
Here is an example from GOLDEN GATE! Not to mention BEN from footprints recruiting!!!!

This isn't a bad contract compared to some I've seen. At least this offers airfare. Many places in Korea overpay for what the employee brings to the table. But that is their choice. Perhaps our overblown expectations make this a 'bad' contract in our eyes.
Sometimes people have no choice but take these contracts. They sign the agreement form first and then sign the contract after landing in Saudi Arabia. After one lands in Saudi Arabia, he has to take whatever is put in front of his nose. The contract may give him what he was promised. It may not give him what he was promised. After one signs the agreement, which does nothing more than give the employer the right to collect a departure fee if he leaves early, and lands in Saudi Arabia, there's no turning back unless he wants to pay the fee to get out early. |

It is much better than the Footprints contract with 36-40 class hours/week!

Probably because it was basically a duplication of this one.
I couldn't believe that they were offering a paltry $2000 a month (7500 SR) with shared housing!!
Ghastly... but I suppose that they will get a few desperate people who don't have any other offers. But really... one can get that sort of lousy contract in a country that has a bit more pleasant conditions.

I made better than that 4 years ago in Korea- 12 hours a week teaching, anf FIVE months paid holiday.

Working only 12 hours a week making $2000USD monthly plus vacation every other week? Well you had it pretty good because now Korea's economy has slumpt for the exchange rate can be disasterous some days and be a blessing on others. Furthermore, when comparing this job offer to that of Korea's the requirments are steep..."must have a TEFL/CELTA"  |

The requirements for my job in Korea were an MA, and preferably more. I know that the exchange rate sucks at the moment, but at today's exchange, I was still making more in Korea than I did in the Kingdom, by the hour, once you factor in holidays. But there are pretty strict age limits in Korea, and I am ready to be elsewhere- other than the Kingdom or Korea. |

I do this for the money, understand. I gave up being the bleeding heart years ago.
If not for Korea and the Middle East, what else is there? Japan? Hong Kong maybe? Taiwan? That's about it. |

You should be able to tell by my frilly head-wear that I am camel-woman!
If you feel that you can only get work in the Kingdom, hold out for the best job you can get. If not, there are other places in the ME besides the Kingdom. I also know of people saving money pretty well in Viet Nam. The cost of living is really cheap there, but if you are the partying sort, well, it may not be good for the savings. |

Even with a non-working spouse (O.K. she volunteers!) and a little one, we still seem to save USD 3K/month in a neighbouring country. More and more, KSA is for over-confident rookies or the more settled type who don't mind the restrictions.
They are easy to catagorize by either their extreme or lack of defensiveness on this board...

I've heard Vietnam is improving, as is China. Some private schools in China pay over 2,000 USD now. Of course, this is like saying some of those pay 90,000 baht in Bangkok. Good luck getting one of those jobs. |
