I know that September-October is vacation time for government schools. Still, if I arrive in early September, am I likely to be able to find a teaching job? Thanks. All replies welcomed.

At the moment, there are less jobs around than 2 years ago because of the recession etc. Some schools have been ordered to hire filipino teachers because they are way cheaper.

You will get a school job, but may need to be less choosy.

If you have never been here you will need to take a few weeks to look around and get the feel. We are now 10 days into August. You should aim to get here asap, to give yrself choices and to settle. IMHO.

Go to Thailand soon. Lots of schools are always hiring. You may snag a good job before the end of semester break.

Personally, I would stear clear of the government schools, however. Low pay and crappy working conditions in many of them.

I understand the government schools are lower wages, but aren't there benefits such as the working hours/days, holidays and that you are less likely to be jerked around? With regards to the latter I am refering to late pay, being let go before end of contract or switched to another school.

Have to agree with Shake. Government schools pay way too low for you. I'll add that there are places around this part of Asia that pay WAY more than Thailand. If I were going to teach here (and I don't plan to again anytime soon), I would get PAID. This is because I know what the overall attitude is of the locals towards this subject. In the end, you'll have nothing to show for your efforts but what you have in your bank account. Make sure you fill it as much as you can. You can work here for 800 a month MOD EDIT

GET PAID.

Most people come to Thailand because they want to experience Thailand, not to "get paid".
