Dear All
Please share your experiences when you were late in joining your work in KSA. What were the implications?
I might be late in arriving in KSA (the semester would have started already by the time I reach the Uni.). I am wondering what are the implications and how things will work for me? |
Hi Chaudhry,
Today I went to the UofH and was told that teachers are supposed to join their departments on September 26th, students will only join their class. on October 15th. So may be coming early in October will not be considered very late! |
Thanks mate for your reply. Its quite a relief. I wonder if you could give us your email address so that we could ask different questions to you about the environment etc. Do you mind? |

The board does have a PM system if one doesn't want to give out email addresses. (definitely do not put out your email here on the board)

| i was late due to visa problems, (which were partly my uni's fault and partly the stoopid embassy's) and arrived on the evening of the day the uni closed for eid holidays. so when i came to sign in two weeks later i found i had missed out on both a month's salary and housing allowance, even tho i appealed the decision. (and i had had to pay for a hotel in the meantime) so i was mad. so what? i got used to it! |

| So perhaps it's a good thing to come really late, as in when the university will be up and running. Why pay out of your own pocket for coming early and on top of that you don't get paid. |

Depends whats written in your contract. Some people get paid from the day they land in KSA and some have to wait for the uni to open.

Is this for everyone that arrives late, because I see alot of us have the same issue (visas)? When does university opens so that we can fly out on time? |

I think it is good advice to go when they tell you to. If you think your first tickets, etc., were a confused mess, try getting them to reissue for a later date. |

Dear Chaudhry,
"In my case I am told by the consulate of KSA that they shell manage my change of tickets case."
Lots of luck on that one - please let us know how it works out for you.

Dear Chaudhry,
First, when you say "tickets" do you mean you actually have a ticket (and would it be on Saudia?)
If so, or if you have only a reservation, why couldn't you simply call Saudia and change the reservation (once you know when you're expected there?)
I always made my own reservations.
Regards,
John |

I would wait until I've received my visa/passport back in my hand before reserving airline tickets. If Saudi pays for the change then there's no fuss, otherwise good luck on paying the penalty fee |
