Hi all. I have two years full time ESL experience in Barcelona and I'm now thinking about a change of scenery.
I've got my eye on Shanghai but would like to know what I can expect to earn tutoring private lessons?
The search function dragged up a few older posts on the subject - but in 2009, can a private tutor still command 250/hr? |

This depends on a number of variables:
-Age/Type of students
-Number of students you're teaching at once
-Study purpose
-Qualifications, Reputation and References
-Location
So, if you're teaching a businessperson one-on-one and travelling to meet them, you may be able to get 250/hr. If you're teaching 6 primary kids at your place you may get 50-100 each. An IELTS/Uni student may pay 100-150.
No matter, you will still need a contract to get your working visa, and you need time to make the connections to arrange the privates.
