Hi all

I'm just doing the initial application on the Interac website and it is asking me to supply reference details for every job i've listed in my "work history". I'm in a bit of a difficult situation....I don't really want my current employer to know that i'm planning to up and leave next summer yet, but i'm afraid that Interac will use the reference details and get in touch with them straight away. Is this the case? Or do they usually wait until they've at least met you at one of the seminars?

Many thanks

I'd guess and say that once you have an offer to interview, that is, once you pass the inital application and phone screening, and they see you at the interview, then they would contact the references.

For the most part, what I can garner of most eikaiwa and dispatch companies is that they judge upon you first after seeing and speaking with you then get back-up from your references as a secondary opinion.

Also, I think if you are planning to leave next summer, applying now might be too early. They are looking for Spring starts right now.

Thanks for your reply!

That is what I thought...I've never really come across a company that doesn't do it in that order, after all.

I had a feeling that I might be a bit too early. I haven't submitted the application just yet. I just wanted to get a "feel" for what was being asked in the initial registration. So I suppose i'd be better to come back to it in the new year?

Thanks again.

Actually, they got in contact with one of my references before my interview. It might have been because I applied only 4 months before departure or it could have been because they were actually interested.

What's the worse that can happen applying now? They can only tell you to re-apply later. Applying now won't lessen your chances of being accepted, but it could possibly improve them.

Competition for summer placements can be fierce. There are far fewer positions avaliable compared to in the spring. And some of these positions will be taken by spring applicants who chose to delay departure for any number of reasons.

To the OP:

Just curious as to whether they have changed the forms.
When I applied, they specifically asked for 2 references. And on the form when they asked for your full work history, they had a little tick box to ask whether they could get in contact with any of the other places I had worked. I said that they couldn't contact one of my old work places and I still got accepted with no questions asked.
I know they didn't contact any of the ones I said they could either. They only contacted my 2 references.

seklarwia - It's very much just like an online CV/resume form with different tabs at the top to seperate the various sections. They didn't ask for any specific references on mine....just my complete work history and there were fields to complete for a reference for each place of work I had included. These reference fields were not mandatory so I guess I could leave them out if I wanted. However, as I said, there was nowhere else which specifically asked for references.

How long ago did you apply? I wonder if the recruitment process has changed a lot. As far as I can tell, the next stage in the process is being invited to a recruitment seminar.

I applied last Christmas. But since then the website has had a whole overhaul. When I applied, the online form was really basic and viewable in full without having to enter any details first.

The next day I was called for a short phone screening and was sent a full application form along with a seminar invite that I had to complete and email back. It was the full form that actually had the parts about references.

I guess they have changed the process a little. They are probably trying to cut down on time wasting.

I suppose so! It did take quite a while to complete but was still only asking very basic stuff. I haven't submitted it just yet though, out of fear that they will contact my current place of work early Wink

Were you successful with your application?
