Tell me, how much it cost to do all the above in Canada?

Well, the only poster who can answer the above is Uncle Scott, he is the co-founder of the SAR500 club! |

I don't do any of these things so I really can't help with prices. Also have to confess that I have no idea what having one's hair 'rebonded' might be.
Didn't you say you were going to a small town? I can't imagine the hair rebonding, full body scrubbing and organic grain fed resources would be all that great there, so you may find yourself saving rather more than you expect! |

Dear Cleopatra,
I'd never heard of "rebonding", either, so I looked it up:
"June 27, 2007 - Hair rebonding, the latest hair trend among women, can lead to hair loss.
It gives you silky, super straight hair, the way the girls in hair commercials look, and the way Jennifer Lopez and Faye Wong look, but it can also leave you bald.
In one of the case study, a 14-year-old girl had big clumps of hair falling off in the shower a year after the process. Her hair started breaking 2 months after being rebounded. Then another case when a woman is suing her hairdresser for bald patches on her head after a similar treatment. Her scalp started stinging during the process itself and hair fell off in clumps shortly after.
Hair rebonding is a process where the chemical bonds in your hair are broken, rearranged and bonded back again permanently using very strong chemicals. It is one of the most damaging things you can do to your hair."
It doesn't sound like it's such a great idea, long-term.
Regards,
John |

Have to say I also have no idea who "Faye Long" is but yes, that whole hair rebonding thing doesn't sound like such a great idea, all things considered. |

I like those things, but don't always buy them of course! My husband makes sure that I don't spend too much money so there is no problem there. I myself have no debt it is my husband student loans that I will be helping pay off.
I wouldn't know what those things cost in Canada to be honest.
IF we save SAR18000 a month that would be R35,615.
I guess it would be nice but I doubt we will ever move to South Africa.

Dear Cleopatra,
Like you (my, we're dreadfully unhip, aren't we?) I'd never heard of Ms Wong, either.
"Faye Wong (王菲) (born August 8, 1969)[1] is a Chinese singer, songwriter, actress and model. She is an icon popular in mainland China, Taiwan, Hong Kong, Singapore, Malaysia, Indonesia, Japan and to some extent in the West.
Her fan base has grown so large and devoted that media in Hong Kong, Taiwan, and mainland China often place the title tiānhu (天后, meaning Queen of [All Under] Heaven) before her name, while Japanese fans call her "Diva of Asia". An intensely private artist, she is one of the very few singers widely popular on both sides of the Taiwan Straits, despite her apparent nonchalance toward the media.
According to Guinness World Records, Faye Wong had sold 97 million copies of her albums as of March 2000, giving her the title of Best Selling Canto-Pop Female.
She has acted in several TV shows and films, most memorably in Wong Kar-wai's Chungking Express, a role that won her "Best Actress" award at the 1994 Stockholm International Film Festival,[6] and in 2046. She is known to many Final Fantasy fans for her Final Fantasy VIII theme "Eyes On Me", and has also been the spokeswoman of brands such as Head & Shoulders shampoo and Pepsi-Cola. Faye Wong has also graced the covers of Vogue Taiwan, Elle and Marie Claire Hong Kong, and has had spreads in Japanese Elle and other major Asian Fashion magazines."

I can't help but wonder - what if Ms Wong married Mr. White.
or
If she married a guy also named Wong, would two Wongs make a White?
Regards,
John |

It doesn't say if it's taken before or after the hair rebonding. Enquiring minds need to know. |

Yikes!- compared to that I am an aspirant to the 500 Club.
I am sure all the cosmetic surgery, hair implants and Jimmy Choo shoes you want can be had as nearby as Jeddah, Riyadh or Khobar, or at least in Bahrain.
Now, if all of this expensive stuff is being done to impress anyone other than your husband, I wouldn't bother. You most likely won't be going to society or embassy parties where you are going. And the pretty clothes will be covered most of the time you aren't at home or in the classroom, and a head scarf will likely be hiding all of the beautifully re-bonded hair. |

You can easily live on SR. 6,000 a month. If you are spending more than that as a couple, you are spending too much. And since you will be next to some ancient tombs in the middle of the desert, there won't be much designer stuff there to spend on!
Zara, Dorothy Perkins, Marks and Spencer, and Charles and Keith are all found in Saudi (and 10s of other similar price-level brands), but you will have to go a long way to find those from where you will be located!

I have thick, orange, bushy, curly, frizzy hair especially in humidity and now I have the straightest, non frizzy hair you can imagine.
Hair rebonding was created in Japan. I have been getting it for years in Korea along with every Korean girl I know.Their hair is so straight in commercials because of rebonding. And then I got it done in Singapore where it is the norm. Not in South Africa as they don't know what they are doing and charge too much to do it. There hair is so straight in commercials because of rebonding.
Of hundreds and hundreds of women I know who have had it I know of not one person who has lost their hair due to it.
I do know of rebonding gone wrong but that is because the hairdressers left the chemicals on too long and fried the persons hair or the hairdresser tried to rebond on hair that was damaged due to too much colouring/bleaching.
If you have curly, bushy, frizzy hair and you have always wanted perfectly straight hair rebonding is the way to go! You hair has to grow out curly again... and it is so flat you don't need to spend hours flat ironing which damages your hair way more.
I am pretty sure the Saudi woman do rebonding, even though they wear the abaya and hijab/ veil they seem to know more about those things that western woman. |

If hair 'rebonding' leads to hair loss, can't the fallen hair just be re-bonded to the scalp? |

Jimmy Choo, nope I like Charles and Keith because they are cheaper (at least in Singapore they were way cheaper than the other shoe stores). Shoes go from US15-40. I only have 5 pairs of shoes to my name as they seem to die very quickly lol
Is that expensive?
Every girl wants a nice perfume from duty free... I all my life I have never bought one for myself they have always been gifts But if it's my birthday my hubby will be buying for me so it will be from our money
I recently bought Gucci sunglasses after 5 years of wanting a designer pair and going through about 20 cheap pairs. I finally got them because I was going to Saudi and figured I would need a good pair if the sun is hot and I don't get to wear anything other than a black cloak. I thought they could snazz up the abaya a bit..
I am not a small girl so in Asia was limited to western brands like Dorethy Perkins or Marks and Spencers because they were the only ones that had big sizes. Although Zara is not necessary, I just like it...
Rebonding costs like US50 in Korea, although it was near US150 in Singapore). But my hair is uncontrollable and so it saves me a lot of time, hair products and hassle.
In Korea, also bathhouses (a spa for us) are very common. You can go in for $4 and they have steam rooms and everything. I have never spent money on an expensive spa yet because in Korea they have one every few blocks and are really cheap.
In Singapore airtickets to Malaysia or Thailand were about $100 return so again I was able to do all these things rather cheaply as far as I can see.
I guess by your comments that in Saudi none of the above apply or can be had without a huge amount of money being spent... so I guess I will have to do without |

I had a couple of students who would get their hair straightened for some special occasion, but it would be curly again in a few days.
My daughter has curly, frizzy, thick black hair, and she wears it like that and it looks beautiful. It takes more work than my wavy hair, but it looks great.
I remember when it was the fashion for women with straight hair to get it all permed up in an afro. They also roasted themselves in the sun to get brown skin.
Now the curly haired women tortured their hair to make it straight, and skin whiteners are all the fashion.
Anyway, you won't be experiencing too much humidity (quite different than Korea) and the young women are a lot less self-absorbed (really) than Korean woman. Most of my students- the great majority, wear their hair long and natural, and are quite proud of it. |

Ah, but Ms Wong doesn't need rebonding. That's just the look that ladies with "uncontrollable" hair (the problem is theirs is wavy and frizz has long been a problem) want to achieve.
Of course, the other (less damaging to one's hair) solution would be to have been born oriental, with long, straight silky and shiny hair

Good to know, it is amazing to see how much a culture rubs off on you! I was a good ol S African girl who never knew about internation brands (had no idea what Luoi Vuitton was and would still never spend that much money on a bag) and never wore make up unless it was for special occasions lol
Then I moved to Korea where 5 year old kindergartens would comment on the fact that I never wore make-up (they are taught from a young age lol). If I had stayed in South Africa I would have been oblivious... guess you don't even try and you pick up cultural things...
What Saudi cultural things would I possible pick up lol... not wearing make up and being fully covered? |
