Jimmy Choo, nope I like Charles and Keith because they are cheaper (at least in Singapore they were way cheaper than the other shoe stores). Shoes go from US15-40. I only have 5 pairs of shoes to my name as they seem to die very quickly lol
Is that expensive?
Every girl wants a nice perfume from duty free... I all my life I have never bought one for myself they have always been gifts But if it's my birthday my hubby will be buying for me so it will be from our money
I recently bought Gucci sunglasses after 5 years of wanting a designer pair and going through about 20 cheap pairs. I finally got them because I was going to Saudi and figured I would need a good pair if the sun is hot and I don't get to wear anything other than a black cloak. I thought they could snazz up the abaya a bit..
I am not a small girl so in Asia was limited to western brands like Dorethy Perkins or Marks and Spencers because they were the only ones that had big sizes. Although Zara is not necessary, I just like it...
Rebonding costs like US50 in Korea, although it was near US150 in Singapore). But my hair is uncontrollable and so it saves me a lot of time, hair products and hassle.
In Korea, also bathhouses (a spa for us) are very common. You can go in for $4 and they have steam rooms and everything. I have never spent money on an expensive spa yet because in Korea they have one every few blocks and are really cheap.
In Singapore airtickets to Malaysia or Thailand were about $100 return so again I was able to do all these things rather cheaply as far as I can see.
I guess by your comments that in Saudi none of the above apply or can be had without a huge amount of money being spent... so I guess I will have to do without |
Good sunglasses are indeed imperative.
There are no jimjilbangs in Saudia, so forget about the weekly bathhouse- and that is too bad, because the bath houses in Korea are wonderful.
The department store clothes are not that expensive, especially if you can shop the Eid sales. More fun is to spend a week in India and get things tailor made. You get a holiday and a shot to your wardrobe.
It is true you get spoiled in Asia, but the Middle East is much more expensive. If you are used to frequent massages, hair styling, manicures, etc., you may find some serious ticket shock in Saudi Arabia. But, as I said, there is a whole different mentality in the ME about that sort of stuff, so it won't feel strange to forgo it. |

| Oh, those Saudi women do wear a lot of make-up (except for the more conservative ones, who wear none- there seems to be no middle ground. |

| Ah, but Ms Wong doesn't need rebonding. That's just the look that ladies with "uncontrollable" hair (the problem is theirs is wavy and frizz has long been a problem) want to achieve. |
So wierd that Asian people (the ones that have the straight hair) created the process and get it done so often...
Most if not all of those Asian models and actresses in the adverts where there hair is perfectly straight have had their hair rebonded...

Never mentioned any of those, I would NEVER DREAM of getting cosmetic surgery (although Korean girls get it done with alarming regularity... even my boss was trying to persuade me to have eyeliner tattood on with all the Korean teachers), I think of hair implants as being for bald old men and I don't really know anything about Jimmy Choo shoes... not sure if I have ever seen a Jimmy Choo store...

| What Saudi cultural things would I possible pick up lol... not wearing make up and being fully covered? |
Depends where you are... I don't know how they do it in Al Ula, but in Jeddah (and Riyadh and Khobar as well), you would learn to bathe the face in makeup (esp. the eyes) and to cover up seductively! Yes, you read it right. Tight-fitting abayas and a seductive way of [partially] covering the hair. And tons of perfume. And clickity clackity [very] high heels. |

But I am serious!
Oh, and bleaching of hair to a golden bronze shade... that's the new thing Saudi women are in to!
South Asian women use skin-lightening creams, and Western women use tanning beds and the sun.
I guess grass is always greener on the other side! |

My daughter is on her own with her hair, and she chooses to wear it natural- long, curly and shot with gray. She has to live with it every day, and she loves it. It is quite dramatic and beautiful.
There is a Jimmy Choo shoe store in Bahrain. If you truly have a shoe fetish, it will make you crazy. The good stuff starts in the 4 figures.
Fortunately I learned long ago that I can't have everything I desire. |

This is beginning to sound like a Saudi version of "Sex in the City."
Carrie: I've spent $40,000 on shoes and I have no place to live? I will literally be the old woman who lived in her shoes!
Carrie: If I don't stop shopping, I'll end up a bag lady; a Fendi bag lady, but a bag lady.....
Stanford: Ooo, Gucci and Dolce and Dior ...
Carrie: Oh my!
Carrie: I realized I was in the throes of an existential crisis. One that not even the sight of this season's Dolce & Gabbana strappy sandals could lift me out of.
Regards,
John |

I met Faye Wong on the set of Chungking Express where I was a lowly paid extra whose part in the kebab shop scene scandalously never made the final cut.
Her hair was indeed lovely. |

You know I visited two old friends recently and I walked into my one friends room and there were about 35 pairs of shoes. At that point I only had 4 pairs of shoes to my name (2 of the same because I like them so much and someone on the saudi forum said the heart makes your shoes die quickly) and I thought wow those are a lot of shoes... but it seems to be normal for girls that don't move countries very often
I had thought that i was a bit of a shopaholic until I saw all my friends wardrobes and realised that I could fit my entire life into a 29kg suitcase.
I know I may sound like one of those sex in the city girls Mr John and I may like nice things but I move around a lot so don't but lots of shoes and clothes etc just the occassional thing to replace something that doesn't fit or has been stained or broken beyond repair. |

Dear lizziebennet,
It's very true that the more settled you are, the more things tend to accumulate (especially if, like me, you hate to throw anything out.)
Buying quality stuff is, I think, almost always the best idea - it lasts.
By the way, I really liked "Sex in the City" (both the TV show and the movie). and I LOVE this typo:
" . . . the heart makes your shoes die quickly) . . .

The series - despite a silly trend towards sentimentalism in the final series - was good, though not nearly as outrageous as it seemed to think.
The film was just plain lousy. |

Dear Cleopatra,
I will admit that the movie, in my opinion, was much less appealing than the series.
Maybe size DOES matter - but inversely to the usual context: smaller is better.

Mr. Little |

| Chungking Express is one of my favourites! I was shocked when I realised that Amlie (which I really like, too) was inspired by Chungking Express. |
