Dear All

I am on my way to Canberra to apply for visa on Monday. It has been a real roller coaster of emotions, waiting games, ups and downs of the speed of various processes but finally all things are coming together now.

I decided to move to Australia and apply for visa from Australia because I was told its "easier" to get visa from the Embassy in Canberra rather than the one in Milan (I was living with my family in Italy). Indeed whoever told me that its 'easier' to get visa from Canberra was right because they do not have a million documents in order to process your visa but fate had a very important ingredient missing for me while i was applying for the visa. Just a ridiculous series of unfortunate events.

To start with (lots of people know this fact here on this forum about Saudi bureaucracy) the documents processing was slow and people with power were not willing to tell us details e.g. you need a police check and it takes around this much time or you need to go to Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade for degree verification only to be forwarded to an international lawyer to notarize your degrees. blah blah blah ...

We had to do all the documents acquisition processes twice i.e. medical certificate was sent to the medical board in Brisbane but medical board wrote us back oh guys you need to pay for this and this is how much it is going to cost you ... more time lost in correspondence. Police returned our forms because of a minor mistake and we had to apply for the police check again ... time lost.

But yeah .... it looks like we should be in Hail within next week (provided there is no more twists in luck). The staff in Canberra is excellent help. We really appreciate their cooperation. They are going to help us reschedule our tickets so that we could fly off as soon as we can.

Good luck in your endeavors and peace out \/.

I hope this job works out, but what if it doesn't? After that post I MYSELF will have a nervous breakdown if it goes south for you.

my story is nearly as dreadful, closing in now on a 3-month process. one can give up or keep paddling. i think i'm doing okay with the wait but have had a recurring dream for several nights now: a looming list of have-to's that i must complete, but the list keeps changing. no lie! too many more nights like those and i'll be rustlin' around in my grandmother's medicine cabinet looking for the old bottle of paregoric! Laughing

cheers to the perseveres,
leez

I think I'd be looking in the tax laws to see if I could write off my expenses during the waiting period. If you've worked in the US January - September, for instance, you may be able to write off your expenses incurred October- December because you've been waiting. Who knows. Maybe you can even get unemployment during those months.

TK,

thanks for the advice, but not sure how to make any of it apply. how in the world would i be able to write off expenses incurred for oct-dec? besides the fact that those are future dates, i plan to be working then. completed a summer session of teaching the end of july. can't imagine trying to file for unemployment for the past 2 months; don't believe my situation fits unemployment criteria, but hey, if you know something about this, let me know!

xo Smile

If you are talking US taxes... I can assure you that none of it is deductible and you are not eligible for unemployment.
