I'll be arriving in Juarez shortly for a Professorship at a private university. Anybody care to chat about life in "The most murderous city in the world"? |

hope you're in the nice part of juarez, aka el paso
its a hole, just plain not a nice place to be, and while there are cleaner safer neighborhoods, its all relative and I hope you don't encounter any problems while youre there |

Mexico's a big country, why live/work there, if you don't have to? There's so many beautiful, relatively safe places, with some culture to boot.... |

I have been to Cd. Juarez a few times. Even before all of the drug violence began in earnest Juarez was nothing to write home about. Hot, ugly and it had a dangerous feel to it ten years ago.
The meltdown in cross-border tourism and trade hasn't helped at all.
"For example, Ciudad Juarez, which had about 250,000 manufacturing jobs at the beginning of 2008, including 100,000 in auto parts, lost 20 percent of its manufacturing jobs by early 2009."
There are other, nicer border towns like Matamoros. Even TJ would be better than Cd. Juarez. |
