Hi there. I've been living in Al Gharbia since January and it really isn't that bad!
Having said that, it is a huge region (something like 75% of the total of the Emirate of Abu Dhabi) and it would depend on whether you would end up going to Mirfa, Liwa, Madinat Zayed, Ghayathi, Ruwais.... lots of small towns around, with MZ being - probably - the one with the most ex-pat European/North American/Australian folks who work in education (either as teachers, with the PPP etc).
I can only really comment on MZ, which is 1.5 hours from Abu Dhabi and (on a good day) about 3 hours from Dubai. Yes, it is in the middle of the desert, but it's not like you're at the end of the earth! If, however, you are looking for bight lights, big city or the latest Prada bag, you might be disappointed. |
