All those people on these six-month "temporary work visas" and "business visas", if they're from the US and can't "establish residency" in Saudi, are they going to be eligible for the
"no IRS taxes," I wonder. |
As an ex-accountant, there are some hoops to jump through, but as long as they keep renewing the visa so that they are overseas for a full year, they should be OK. The US never actually checks what kind of visa you have... teachers are rather small fish to bother to audit.

To reply to the original question, as I have stated in another post, I was the person who did all the work in obtaining my son's work visa (he was very tied up in other things, and I have experience in this sort of detail)
He finally received his visa Tuesday from the DC consulate. It took about a month, all told. They were very particular on a number of minute things, and then we got to sit on our hands through Ramadan week. But, keep your chins up. We DID get ours. My son flew out today--only 2 weeks later than he had planned.
He will arrive in KSA Saturday night at about 10 p.m. He is expected to begin teaching Sunday morning.
One other thing of interest: He will be teaching WOMEN! I didn't think that was allowed, but he was advised he will teach on evening class in literature to Saudi women. A chaperon will be present at all times. |

The only time I've ever heard of men teaching women was in special classes that had a one way mirror. The Ss could see the T but the T couldn't see the Ss.

perhaps he will be teaching women because all of the women teachers are still sitting on their hands waiting for word about their visas!
