Hi Guys
I wonder how long does a kid have to be before parents can enroll him/her into a school. My little man seems ready for one but I reckon age might be silly craiteria hampering him from going to a school.
Please share your views and experiences.
p.s. does anyone has experience with indian/pakistani schools?
ps.s. are there any aussie schools in the kingdom? |

Say what?  Well, to answer the question about how 'long' (not tall, which is a different matter), I guess as long as the kid can fit the width of a normal doorway, s/he is good to go!
No Aussie schools in KSA. Several British and American schools (managed by people from said countries), and tons of British-curriculum and American-curriculum schools managed by Arabs and South Asians.
Indian and Pakistani schools in each of the 3 main urban centers. What would you like to know about them?
I thought you were going to Ha'il? In that case, you can forget about such schools. There is only one 'international' school there, and I believe it is called "Lama International School". Someone can correct me. It is Arab-managed, and from what I know, dismal in quality. I think half the subjects may be in Arabic even. |

Regulation length is 30 cm.
No jesting apart I am not sure that the Govt lays down the criterai although all schools here ARE under the supervision of the Min of Ed. I suspect that the schools set the reules looking to the curriculum of the country on whose school system they model themselves.
Realistically you have to write off any place outside the three umain urban areas if you are looking for an internatioinal school. Quality and cost vary enormously |

Are you sure about the length figure? Kids are born normally 50+ cm |

Thanks for the message mate. Yes I am going to Hail and I heard there are two schools (1 Indian and 1 Pakistani) But yeah I also heard a newly made International school. Thanks I shall look up for that soon on net see if I find some luck |

Bear in mind that the first group of schools at any rate, will be prohibitively expensive for mere ESL teachers. Perhaps fees are lower for small children, but I know that the British School in Riyadh charged at least 20,000SR in annual fees. Most ESL teachers get a fraction of that in education allowance. |

For government preliminary schools, the min age is 6 years. |

| I look back with fond memories on the days when I had a contract that paid FULL SCHOOL FEES at the American School for up to thre children. Now it is common to get NO EDUCATIONAL ALLOWANCE at all. |

| Yes but how much ? The better schools are around 35,000 SAR a year per child. |

| Whatever your child's age, it is never to early to get him on a waiting list. Any quality institution of education in KSA (no matter how remote its location) will have a loooong waiting list. Get your kid on it, and then worry about what the allowance pays for later. |
