MEB... are you "content"? I only held it out as a possibility for a content teacher. I dunno how much they make...an' I don' care.

If you don't care, then why are you asking?

Again, I don't get yer point. I'm not asking anything other than if yer a content teacher. You said that that was more than they offered you.

I said that I don' care what a content teacher makes. My question towards you is if you were a content teacher.

You advise not to negotiate as it was more than you were offered, but if yer not a content teacher, how can you give that advice?

I don't get your point.

Being a content teacher is irrelevant. The prospect for her to make $4900 as a teacher outside Saudi Arabia is fantastic. My point is that it's so much more than many are able to get in Saudi hellhole Arabia, and she doesn't even have to be in Saudi hellhole Arabia.

Littleoldlady,

Yes, it's a good salary.

BUT --- is that all there is?

Are you also being offered accommodation, and if so, who pays the utility bills? Do you get regular air fares home? Is there a gratuity? Who pays for health care?

There's a lot more to a contract than just the salary.

It's probably close to the bottom of the scale for content teachers. If the job is with HCT you will be able to climb the salary ladder steadily. If it doesn't come with accomodation, tickets, medical, etc. then it's fairly low IMHO. Besides, if you're not getting accomodation provided you have added stress and potential/probably future problems when rents stabilize and start to rise again.

Then it might be one or two steps from the bottom rung for the content teacher scale. Whether you can negotiate that depends on how badly they need someone with your experience and skills - some programs are crying for people while others are able to pick and choose amongst applicants.

EFL teachers are treated differently (whether that's fair or ethical is another question entirely) because there are more of them available with the required qualifications and their salary scale may start a few rungs lower than content.

I know when I started I was 3 or 4 rungs above EFL teachers who started at the same time.

I did notice the new advert from HCT. They state that accomodations are unfurnished so a furniture allowance would be expected correct?

That is the good news... no trashy stuff in a style that that you would never choose. Laughing Last I heard it is still 30,000 DHS or just over US$8000.
