Hi Spain Forum! This is my first time writing in Spain's forum, so thanks in advance for the info.

I got an email from "Execs International School" in Madrid, but their website (execs.com) doesn't seem to exist. In the email, they said they were hiring for Jan 2010 jobs working 4 hours per day 5 days a week with either 11/12 or 18/19 year olds. According to the email, the school was established in 2008.

In the email, they said they got my email from an ESL jobsite (which is possible b/c my resume is all over the ESL job pages).

So, has anybody heard of this school or know anything about it? Any info would be helpful. Thanks! Very Happy

If they're offering some wildly inflated salary (more than approx 1,200 euro/monthly) or say they can get visas for non-EU citizens, it's a scam.

These have been the two key bits of info in recent scams.

It sounds shady and suspicious that they are trying to recruit from abroad, to begin with, unless you have specialist qualifications of some kind. There are tons of teachers on the ground in Spain.

I'd say it's most likely 1. a scam or 2. a school with a bad local rep that teachers in the area don't want to work for, for some good reasons.

I'll be curious what others think - and if you have more info about their 'offer.'

Wise words as usual Spiral. Also, a bit weird that their classes only start in January 2010. Why skip Autumn, the most lucrative time of the teaching year? Can't think of any reason for that other than the fact they want time to prepare people (or "marks") for "fees" for "visa processing" or "rent deposit."

There seems to be a wave of Spain Scams just now...I don't think we've seen so many in one short period before.

Somebody must be falling for it and sending visa fees or something.

Watch out, guys!

Any clue where this is originating?
Nigerians? Spanish mafia? Shocked

I just did a bit of homework on Execs. They are definitely a scam. I wasted a bunch of time corresponding with them and filling out their written interview, and today they hit me up for the upfront money.

Anyway here is the link to the scam posting.

I have not responded to them yet, but given the time I have wasted I would truly love to sting them. Is it possible to involve Interpol in such an operation? Any ideas?

Doubt Interpol would give a damn but take a look at this website for ways you can play with the scammers. It's a funny read, especially look at the hall of shame.

Hey, yeah I've had exactly the same email form them and went through the whole process including the written interview. As soon as they asked for the 'accommodation fee' of 460 euros, I was concerned. Luckily I decided to google them and found this so I'm glad I didn't take it further. It did look too good to be true - 1600 a month with paid accom and flights for someone who has no experience and has just finished the CELTA... yeah right!
