| Somebody put the Saudi Military are at the top of the list for English instructors salaries in the KSA. I would not agree. KFMMC English Instructor salaries in Dahran start at 10,000/mo which would put them at the bottom of the list...plus can't escape from jail to Bahrain for the 1st 3 months...plus, so I have been informed, you have to be very patient to get a refund...if you ever get it. |

They're certainly at - or at least very near - the bottom of the list when it comes to working conditions, at least in all the cases I'm aware of. And in Saudi, if your work is "unpleasant," there's little else to make your life there
tolerable.

Bottom line, with VERY FEW exceptions, the salad days of workin' for the saudi military are long over. I rode that horse as long as I could.
When it wouldn't stop, I hadda cap that little palomino myself.

It obviously depends on the contractor you're working for!
Direct hire with the military, including the Navy, isn't up to much. Working for Booz-Hamilton, Raytheon etc can be very good- and there are a clutch of US contractors who get worthwhile military gigs.
Now if you end up on a military contract recruited by, for example, one of the incarnations of M-Trading, then expect to be shifted. |

I've spoken to several of the current Raytheon teachers. Although the salaries/benefits are as good as they've ever been, the classroom conditions are at their worst. It all depends on how much you can endure for how long. A high salary is worthless if you hate the job.

Thaas why I said that the "salad days" are mainly over. There used to be good times...and the aaudi Air Defense corps that I also taught were the worst bunch of unregulated prima donnas that I ever had the displeasure of sharing a classroom with. I'm not talking about the enlisted up in Taif. I'm talking about the "officer corps" in jeddah.
Truly, the scum of the Earth...
I know people who still work there. I grieve for them...

1) Lousy class conditions with no learning and a really schit salary
2) Lousy class conditions with no learning and a salary that's ok, quite possibly even pretty good.

It has nothing to do with the "classroom conditions", it has EVERYTHING to do with the officers of the Air Defence...they're rotten to the...to the...corps!
You forgot choice #3: Upgrade yer creds, throw the DLI "schit" (actually "shite", nice try, but spelt like a true American!) out da window and get a real job for once!

As a non-holder, I couldn't tell you. If yer in the Gulf (or other regions for that matter), hook up with the local British Council. If they're not offering it, they'll know who would be...if any...

P.s.- In re: your question to Sadobugo...MTCW...if you can put up with the pampered officer corps that gets trained in Jeddah and LOVE diving, then Jeddah's for you. If you like a pretty likeable group of non-coms and the quiet life, then you should be Taif-bound... |
