I want to get a teaching qualification, in the form of a PGCE/Grad. Dip and am looking at schools in New Zealand, Australia, and the UK. Trouble is I'm an American, and most student loan places ony give loans if you study in the States. You can get a private loan, but I've got nothing for collatoral, no house, mortgage, car. Living in China, I don't really need one.

Money is an issue, none of these schools have financial assistance for international students.

Has anyone been in this situation, what did you do?

Maybe I'm pointing out the obvious, but I saved up my money. Confused

Seriously, go teach somewhere that pays reasonably well, save up some money, and go back to school by distance. I'm currently saving close to a $1000 a month at my teaching job. Why pay the bank interest?

I don't know if this applies to international personel, but some of the Chinese teachers in our school are not yet fully qualified. They half work and half study (no time for social life obviously). Maybe if you went to a nearby uni and played the 'I'm a Foreigner, Get Me Outta Here' card, you may be able to do the same.

Just a thought...
