Sounds like a nice plan. What countries are best for short-term teaching jobs? Seems an ideal way to pick up experience and see a few of the places I'm thinking of basing myself in.
Know Cambodia fits the bill. And maybe Thailand? But could I get short-term gigs in Vietnam, Taiwan or Korea?
I do have saving, and I need a break, but I don't want to waste the cash too quick. What country do you favout for someone in a position like me? |
I already suggested starting in Taiwan, then maybe Vietnam or Thailand. I don't see too many ads for Cambodia jobs, but they are out there.
Korea is good for academic-year jobs, but you will need to have a criminal background check first. You may also need this for Vietnam right now.
Wherever you go, just pack your degree and CELTA with you, or at least a digital scan. |

For Korea, the current reqs are all over the map - different officials will even tell you different things (even though they hold the same position in the same Ministry/department).
However, if you are eligible, South Korean summer & winter camp jobs still provide some of the best 'fast cash' opportunities.
A number of unis/colleges still provide airfare, accommodations, high payment for 4-8 weeks work.
Although you cannot legally take any outside tutoring while working such a camp, you will find that there are a lot of editing/proofing jobs available (academic papers, etc.) - provided THROUGH your admin - that pay pretty well per page, too.
So if it dovetails with your plans, taking one of those types of camps, grabbing the few thou, and then heading off to one of the SEAI/M countries might just fit your plans.
Best of luck to you!
