Not sure if the OP has moved on to something else, but I am just about to finish the CELTA course in NYC. It has been really helpful. The tutors are excellent and the program introduces you many helpful teaching methodologies. The teaching practice with ESL students is invaluable. Also, the center is newly affiliated with International House, which appear favorable to some employers. If you can afford the time and money, definitely take this course. |

I think the best bet for me is to get the Master's in Tesol or however you spell it but with that MA am I able to teach in unversities in the US with that???? Because what I wanted to do is teach abroad and gain some experience and then come back to the US and get a nice job teaching a university ESL |

I'd suggest you get some experience first teaching ESL to see if you like it and also because a masters course will be better if you have some experience to base your opinions on.
Also, try to improve your general written communication. Basic grammar mistakes and the use of so many question marks makes your posts quite annoying to read. Maybe it's just me, but I really hate it when native speakers use the English language in such a shabby way. |

Omg! That is just horrible ! I can't marry an EU citizen! lol grrrrr

A couple of points:
There is no such thing as an EU citizen. The EU is made up of sovereign nations. Get used to illegality-you are going into TEFL. |

Well, not yet anyway but give it time.

Nations that seem to be giving up more and more of their sovereignty to the EU.

Which suggests the TEFL field is not a legitimate career field and that people in that field should not be considered to have real jobs. I'm not sure that's the message you want to convey. |

So, I keep looking at the title of this thread (DOES ANY OF THE TEFL PROGRAMS OFFER FINANCIAL AID?) and it just rubs me the wrong way. I realize that a significant number of linguists would suggest that English is an ever-evolving (or perhaps devolving) language and that therefore there is no such thing as incorrect grammar; but I just can't bring myself to accept "does any."

I am sorry but I did not come here to be judged by any of you. I can't help but to notice many rude comments from people because of simple mistakes. I am an undecided college student here looking for guidance from people with knowledge but instead I have gotten many nasty ones instead lol I have no clue why are some of you "grouchy" but please keep it to yourself; all I ask is for simple answers to my questions, not to put me down and make me feel LESS of a person!
THANKS |

In fairness, you came to an English teacher's forum expressing a desire to become an English teacher and ended up butchering the language. You can imagine why some would criticise you for it.
Also, you've been given some fairly good advice as well. |

If your willing to travel, Western Washington University in Bellingham WA has got a college of Education certificate program (google: WWU Woodring esl). Since your taking classes from a regular college, I think you can get loans for it. Dont know more about it than that. |

Actually, I'm not sure that people are being grouchy merely for the sake of it. If you take care about what you write, people would take you more seriously and maybe might offer you assistance. If, on the other hand, they think that you aren't capable of using the English language well, then they are saving both you and your future students a lot of trouble. A high standard of linguistic ability is a prerequisite for TEFL; all the other skills are built on top of this. (For example, when I see a well-written entry, I tend to suggest courses/schools/methods of searching for jobs. I don't waste my time on people who might not be able to do the job as I wouldn't be helping anybody in the medium term by doing so.)
Generally, people contribute to these forums because they want to help. So why not judge what you need to do by examining their overall reactions? If they are saying the equivalent of 'we are unable to take you seriously if you are unable to put together a literate entry', then maybe you should look at yourself rather than them. Consider the options:
1 - If you are in fact unable to use the language well, then TEFL isn't for you. A better CELTA course may screen you out first, but the majority will take your money. So you need to make this assessment yourself.
2 - If you are capable, but feel unable to take time over your forum contributions, it might suggest to you that you are not in fact taking this career option seriously. (By the way, if you are genuinely looking for career direction, you could use the following free career test to help you with career choice: www.careersteer.org .)
3 - If you do want to have a serious go at TEFL, or at least ask some good questions and get some good answers, why not start a new thread? Indeed, if you feel that you've got off on the wrong foot, why not register again under a new name, and then try again?
I hope that you realise that I have spent this amount of time advising you in order to help, not to be nasty. If I wanted to be just plain nasty, I think I'd have written far less. |

I guess some of us just expect more from people who have graduated from high school in the United States and who presume to think they want to teach other people how to speak, write in and read English. |
