|
|
Hi all
there seems to be a lot of chatter recently about Vietnam tightening up on Visa handouts. I'm hoping to go and teach there next year with my GF, who does not have a degree or a TEFL certificate, but she does hope to find work. She is strongly considering doing a scuba diving instructing course.
What would be the best type of visa for her to apply to? Is she likely or unlikely to get one? Has the situation become that difficult to get a visa in Vietnam now? Bear in mind that at first she may not apply for a working visa, as she would most likely need to find a job out there - what then would be the best option?
any advice is much appreciated with thanks |

I'm brainstorming here:
Nanny (I imagine a native English speaking au paire is a hot commodity)
Customer Service?
Waitress in an expat place?
Though I'm not actually there yet (landing 1/1) I can say this based on my experience, both with my Vietnamese students here and also with some online experiences: getting to know people can open a lot of doors.
The more I think about it, though, the more I can imagine the au paire situation. Isn't there a website where people are looking for au paires? Also, does she have ANY college hours? Maybe teaching assistant?
The visa situation is a bit difficult to guage, though. |

| Send her up to Nha Trang with a tourist visa. Lots of dive outfits there. |

If no degree and no tefl certificate, that is OK. But she won't be doing any teaching. If so, it would be at a bad school. Up to her.
Diving, perhaps.
The following post mentioned working as a waitress or barmaid at an expat bar.
This is not really possibile - unless she wants to do it illegally for an hour, which usually pays in drink/beer, and is usually in Hanoi and only on Saturday night, late. |
