I know several teachers who have left already because of this visa snafu. I'm just hanging on hoping it wiill change, but i'm not encouraged by what i see.
A previous poster said ..."the party is over"......maybe it is.
I'm starting to drink more and care less about this place everyday. |

I had the chance to leave, but chose to stay earlier in the year.
It's about control. Options. Now, I don't have the option, or may not have the option. I will know in 3 months when I try to renew.
When we don't have choices, it's time for change. There are other countries to teach in, and you can always leave teaching and doing something different.
But this visa mess takes the timing and planning aspect away from us. This could be a very serious problem for me, in my situation back home. |

| noel: Look on the bright side. Every cloud has a silver lining. Most of the shadows of this life are caused by standing in one's own sunshine. No pessimist ever discovered the secrets of the stars, or sailed to an uncharted land, or opened a new heaven to the human spirit. The optimist sees the rose and not its thorns; the pessimist stares at the thorns, oblivious of the rose. Look at the visa situation as an opportunity for you. Think of the possibilities that await you in Kuwait. Look at the world through rose-colored glasses! |

Be optimistic?
I've lived, worked, payed taxes in VN for years. I obey the laws. I put over 75% of my income back into VN.
I just had to pay 3x (triple) the cost for my visa, that was 1/2 as long as the one I'd been working for years.
Kuwait? I never posted, and never have thought of going there.
There are other countries in East Asia to teach in. VN, is no longer one of the better options.
If the US economy wasn't so slow with the high unemployment I'd return. But instead I'll postpone that for at least one year.
Lots of jobs in East Asia.
I've been applying and I've been getting good responses.
I suggest others do the same. |

Too many thorns-not enough roses to make it worth while.
Kuwait? Dont be silly! Salaries there have dropped about 60% over the last year. |
