Dear Geomood,
I have no experience of this campus but where I worked in another, MORE lberal Gulf country, the local colleagues didn't particularly appreciate wearing of jeans. Usually jeans is associated with the West and esp. US and you don't know who may not take a liking. I advise a wardrobe as formal as possible with necktie and fullsleeves and all that. Suede shoes ok but no adidas nike etc. Good luck.

Well, which is more iconic to USA, jeans or Coca Cola and Pepsi Cola?
Don't you know that Pepsi and Cola have branches in all Gulf countries, including the Magic Kingdom! So, to wear a jeans or not is not as important to the locals as having Pepsi and Cola factories based in their territories!
Wake up, Uncle Sam does not drink camel milk! |

I worked at KSU (briefly) when it was still the University of Riyadh.
Go formal. You are a member of the university faculty, you're not a student. You don't have to waer three piece suits, but smart trousers, a long-sleeve shirt and tie are good for a start.
Once you have settled in, you can see what your colleagues wear, and tone down a bit if you see that is acceptable. |

Dear 007,
What you say is true but haven't we over the years learnt one can drive around in a Ford, drink Pepsi, be a regular at MacDonalds and still deride the West? Not that I think the West needs these icons anyway...

Dear TLOH
I stand corrected. A Big Mac isn't that bad after all, shall we say?
