NEWBIE QUESTION
I'm in my third week of waiting for the invitation letter and work permit for the Z VISA.
The wait is killing me as I never thought it could take so long
If the worse happens and I get refused by the government officials........
WHY OH WHY could this happen???
Business Studies Diploma NOT good enough??? EFL Certificate not recognised??? OR Portuguese Passport not accepted???
Lastly, they might not enjoy my photo!
HELP! I've been having nightmares about this.
Do the official keep a record of refused applications or will I get a chance at applying again through a different school???
So many questions............ CAN SOMEONE HELP WITH THE ANSWERS?
What if I just travel on a L or F Visa......... can I find a job once in China and exchange it???
Much appreciated for your answers. |

The process can take 4 weeks...why dont you contact whoever your prospective employer is and ask what is going on? You probably wont get a straight answer but you have nothing to lose by asking...
As far as I know...
You wont obtain a Z visa, your employer will obtain an invitation letter plus a couple of things that will be sent your way. Then YOU have to go to your local consulate/embassy with all the paperwork and apply for the visa yourself.
I doubt the Chinese authorities would keep any records of the sort like what you are talking about, and even if they do I doubt they would check them and it would certainly not show up if you were refused a work visa if you were to apply in some other city.
And lastly, it is officially impossible for you to go to China on a tourist or business visa and obtain a work visa, and I would not advice you do it. |

The problem may be with your Business Studies Diploma. As I understand it, you need a BA or equivalent to get a foreign expert's certificate, which would then enable you to get the Z visa. A colleague was recently denied an FEC because he only had college diplomas. Our school allows FTs to come here on the L visa, so the guy had been teaching four weeks before being asked to leave (the college and China!). Be careful. |

Stay cool, the IL may arrive any day now. If they tell you there are some problems (ie the diploma) and do ask you to come over on an L visa, and 'promise' you that all will be well after you arrive, and that they will get you your residency permit ,just make sure that you have some cash or access to some, just in case they are full of b*****it. You definitely need a plan B. Depending where you are it won't be impossible to get an extension on the L visa ( not difficult at all) and find alternative employment before the extension expires. Good luck. |

I asked here about community college diplomas and TAFE (Australian equivalent) being good enough and I got the impression that these would mostly be ok.
Who knows in this bloody country. |
