This wasn't at Riyadh AB was it? I worked that gig, which has similar sounding arrangements fer years, but wouldn't call it a large room...

It was on the outskirts of Riyadh airport.
Regarding size, there were about 28 desks in the room. |

As MEB said... it could be worse. But, that was definitely one of the things that I hated about HCT. Embarrassing that the concept of those horrid open plan office cubicles was American. I never figured out how anyone got anything done. Phones ringing all day... teachers and students in and out all day... chattering printers.
It is the same in most offices in the US these days... I just don't get it... individual productivity has to just go down the toilet.

Is that really all it takes...tolerance and being easy going? VS, I disagree. Many of those who stay at places that long are often trapped.
Spouses are most likely employed in the same country. The kids are going to great schools and are at an age where you can't really move them without major disruption and unhappiness. The easy lifestyle has become addictive. The next gratuity is around the corner... If these long termers left, where would they go? |

That is certainly true of those with kids in school... and a spouse in a job that s/he likes. I still think that comes down to your tolerance level... of what is happening both at work and at home.
It's all a balancing act that I was glad to be able to avoid. We singles only have to please our own selfish little self.
Where could they go? Another Gulf country? Home? I realize that all this depends on one's nationality...

Age is a big factor too. When you reach 50 plus, it gets difficult to find new teaching jobs anywhere, especially in your home country. I suggest a life plan rather than a quick fix for the good life. But then what do I know, I am ancient....... |

A plan is the key... that is how I was able to completely retire by 54.

Love meetings? Then HCT is the place for you!! But, one does have all that silly teaching to interfere with them.

Yes, littleoldlady, I gathered as much...you seem like a very sane person.
Ditto on the life comment...but I'd rather sit in a dentist's chair having my gums scraped than sit through a typical staff meeting.

I am sane because of my knitting Helenl. I love knitting through meetings. I also love going to the dentist Seriously - I always ask for the "good girl sticker".
MEB - Sane? That's very kind of you to say so. I think there might be another who would say otherwise
Have a safe trip MEB. |
