Hi guys
I am a fully qualified chartered accountant based in teh UK at present with a BSc degree and am about to begin a sabbatical to travel the world.
One of the things i am very keen on trying to do is some teaching in the Far East.....not sure whether this will be possible as i dont have any form of teaching qualification, and dont really have the cash at the moment to do one of teh TEFL courses. My only teaching experience has been through Camp America teaching sports to yougn children.
Bearing in mind my limited level of experience, is this something that i am going to be able to do? I was hoping on working for about 6 months, potentially longer. Alternatively, can anyone suggest work opportunities in the Far East which may suit my background a little better?
Any pointers or advice at all much appreciated.
Cheers in advance

I'm sure you'll get lots of advice re teaching abroad. Here's a link I came across for short-term jobs: www.tefltemp.com. I haven't taught in the Far East but I understand it's possible to get jobs in places like South Korea, China and Thailand with little or no teaching experience and without a certificate although obviously these won't be the best jobs available. There appear to be many recruiting companies available in South Korea so they might be able to help you if you want to try and get a job before you go. If you post your query on the forum for these areas I'm sure someone else will be able to answer you better.
Good luck! |

Japan.
JET Programme.
But you're going to have to commit to a full year. |

You might check into the Raffles Group/Corporation. They are an English medium trade school (college) which advertises fairly regularly for positions in Vietnam, China, and Singapore. I believe they offer courses in business, accounting, design, etc.
From what I gathered, they don't have the best reputation - longish hours and lower standards (which is why your BSc and professional experience might get you in) - but they do pay relatively well ($2000). My research turned up some bad experiences, but I also found some who said they would do it again. In the end, it is a chain and varies from campus to campus.
They might also have campuses in Mongolia. I seem to remember some schmuck (teaching business courses) going on and on about the standards there. If I remember correctly, this fellow had graduated from an Ivy League school too! Apparently, they failed to inform him that Mongolia is a third world country. haha
Fare thee well... |
