Just a question, although it might seem like a silly one, and no, I'm not trying to start a Dave's dating service or anything. I was just wondering if any of you posters out there have met up with each other along the way; I've heard it mentioned here and there.
I know that when I start my Teaching career in the next while, I'd sincerely like to meet a lot of you out there since, for me, just finding this site where I can communicate with all of you who are doing what I want to do and who share some of the same ideas as me has been so rewarding and helpful - I'd love to meet up with you along my way in the next few years wherever you are. I'd hate to think that we're all a bunch of anonymous messages on a screen.

I've never personally met anyone from the forum. In the future, maybe I will.

Someone at my university read my posts and figured out who I was, but that doesn't count since he wasn't posting then.
I haven't met any other cafe patrons in person yet. However, I'm leaving for the TESOL convention in Long Beach tomorrow where I expect to meet schminken for a coffee or something. That'll be nice.
(And if anyone reading this plans to be there and wants to join in, leave a note on the board at the registration desk. The more the merrier and all that jazz.) |

I have actually spoken to one person on the phone and met another one for a brief supper/drink!
It turns out somebody here used the same recruiter as I did. during a casual conversation with that recruiter, her name was mentioned and we called her out of the blue to say Hello. I know I would have freaked out if something like that happened to me and somebody called me because of a post I made in the forums....
Last week, someone sent a PM mentioning that they were in my neck of the woods, I promptly answered them and arranged to meet up for a drink...it was fun..
I would not mind meeting a few other folks that were extremely helpful when I was asking all of my newbie questions.. |

I met a member while he was passing through my city en route to another teaching gig overseas. It was nice. We talked TESL the whole evening.
Also, someone figured out who I was. He/she sent me a PM to reconfirm my identity and he/she was right. Weird, huh?
I might be going back to Japan soon to get some wedding photos taken. I'd love to meet with fellow members, but I'll be in Tokyo and most people live far from Tokyo. |

Well, one day, out of the blue I got a phone call from someone who had gone throuh the same recruiter as I did. It really freaked me out.
Ha ha ha, just joking, of course, nolefan. I'm too friendly to get freaked out that easily.
I'm more interested in how you figured out who I was. You'd think there would be more than one ESL teacher with an eyebrow ring in China.
But, hey, I might be the only one. I know the Chinese sure think it's different. |

I haven't met anyone here personally, but I've emailed a few of you and think I know them a little bit better.
Who here would you like to meet if you could?
I'd like to meet Johnslat, Capergirl, Shmooj, Denise, Celeste and a few others. I think it would be a lot of fun. |

There are too many names to list...I think I would enjoy meeting all the "regulars" on this board.
If I could only pick just one individual, it would be Dan (from the China Off-Topic board). I just love hearing about his adventures! However, if I do ever get a chance to meet Dan, I will be sure to bring my personal bodyguards just in case I accidentally look at him wrong or something. |

I count wOZ from OZ and My Turn Now, who both used to post on the China boards, as good friends: sure we've met. I got a some-time poster a job at my school, but didn't know he was on Dave's until later. |

As Cap'n Kirk says, there are simply too many to choose from -- any of the regulars already mentioned would be good, plus I can think of a few posters who were regulars but have faded away over time (like Lucy Snow and Zakiah25) who'd make for good company. Actually, I'd be happy just to have them back on the boards.
Still, if I had to pick only one cafe regular to meet, I'd have to go with scot47. Dangerous? Sure, but think of the glory in coming face to face with him and living to tell the tale. Backpackers will buy me drinks even as they tremble in fear at his name when I recount the fateful day... |

I wouldn't mind meeting people on this forum.. so long as they had good time management skills and character.

Actually, come to think of it, yes. I had to think a moment there though because it's been a while..
Both of them asked questions about Poland on the old Dave's board (remember that old-timers?) One of them was debating on working in Katowice (I know Alex Shulgin--it's a dump!) and I talked him into it. That was about 4 1/2 years ago. He stayed for at least 3 years and may still be there, but I unfortunately lost touch with him a couple of years ago.
The other is my very good friend Jen. She asked about a specific school in Poland about 3 years ago (again, in Katowice). About 9 months later we finally met up in Poland..and became excellent friends! She and her now husband first hooked up at my St. Patrick's day party 2 years ago (they were only friends before that night). She's still in Poland, and I have since moved to Germany, but we are still in regular touch.
But, I'd love to meet up with many of you--too many to count really!
I've been browsing Dave's since '96 believe it or not. Got my first job from here in Poland in '97.. Can't believe it's 2004 already!!!
Ok, enough of my babbling... |
