Hi, I am going to take my CELTA course soon (in the UK) and am interested in teaching in Mexico, mainly because I am interested in the people and the culture. I have a 24 and have a 3 year degree in Sociology with Educational Studies (in the UK most degrees are 3 years) and some teaching experience, although not teaching English. I am learning Spanish but will certainly not be fluent, or probably not even at an "intermediate" level any time soon. Basically, how easy is it for someone from the UK to get a job in Mexico, and not from the United States or Canada?
Thanks
Kirsty

As a fellow Brit, I can tell you, it will be a piece of cake. The Spanish isn't important. Native speakers are in demand and if you ask most students if they'd prefer a Brit or US speaker, most would go for the former.

However, having just spent a beautiful vacation in London and Paris, I would love to pass you in the opposite direction! Rolling Eyes

Yeah, there seems to be some kind of high regard for England, London...

you can exploit that.

Seriously, shouldn't be a problem, and you'll love the price of Victoria.

Yes, it's a good nationality to have in Mexico, milk it for all it's worth.

Bear in mind that Mexicans will assume you:

drink tea at 5 o'clock
are a hooligan or know some
come from the country of London
invented English
speak the most original and pure English on the planet
are cold

I for one think that The Beatles may just be The Most Overrated Band Ever. I particularly dislike "I Want to Hold Your Hand". But Paul McCartney gets bonus points for being a vegetarian.

You have basically just written my biograpy. I love tea, we do speak the most original English and I know many, many hooligans. I have at least BEEN to London and I don't think anyone can deny it is pretty cold in the UK, esp in Edinburgh Sad
