than bowties on interviews in Istanbul? What percent of Turks have moustaches? Seriously, Ive heard there is a kind of unspoken respect for men with moustaches in the MK Ataturk style, as opposed to clean-shaven. Could this have even an unconscious influence on the hiring process, insofaras the interviewer may sense some acquiescence in the candidate to Turkish style or sentiment?

I'd say, to some extent, yes. Be very careful about having a beard, though. Bushy eyebrows are very admired - they are called 'Ataturk Eyebrows'.

A mustache is pretty much esential to finding a good job in Turkey, the bushier the better and the more respect you will earn, thus the better job you will receive!!!

You probably know that there have been many studies done which say that attractive people get better jobs and earn more, well in Turkey mustaches are considered to be very desirable, so if you want to be paid a desirable wage you need a mustache.

Don't forget you can use gel or muse on your eyebrows to add volume, it's a great secret known to few in the TEFL community!!!

I suggest photoshoping a mustache on your pictures that you submit and buy the time you arive your mustache should be in fool bloom!!!

I hope this helps, let us know what happens!!!

HHHMMMMMMM, it's an interesting idea, it could probably work but it's not as clear as the mustache, so i would just keep it minimal at the interview, maybe 4 days of stuble, and then see how it goes, certainly if you add the bowtie it could be a formula for great success!!!
Best of luck!!!

This thread has been a good laugh. I am guessing Eclectic is not in the country so I feel it is only fair to tell him the truth.

I don't know how old you are Eclectic but it is quite unusual to see a moustache on someone under 45. Even then, moustaches are more favoured by working class men, although not always. This may be different in the east of Turkey but certainly here in Istanbul, all the successful, executive types I have known are very clean shaven.
