Hey, I'm planning on heading to Indonesia next year to teach English and i just need some advice on the best places to go?! I'm in the process of getting my TEFL certificate and have heard so many great things about Indonesia, it would be great to get advice from those of you who have been out there.
I'd like to be near the coast rather than a complete bustling city inland, but in a location where i can easily go off and see the sights!?
Any advice on your experiences would be greatly appreciated (as i'm sure advice for you was when you were first starting out!!).
Thanks,
Emma Smile

Best is a matter of opinion. What one person might think is best another might think is one of the worst.

Indonesia is an archipelago: you're never very far from the coast. There are, of course, bustling coastal cities like Surabaya and tourist traps like Bali; so, don't assume that the only bustling cities are inland.

For travelling around I think Surabaya is a good bet: International airport, 40 min flight to bali, can get cheap flights to every major city in Indonesia, and it has all the facilities Jakarta has minus the awful traffic. Not much fine dining and exclusive lounges and nightclubs but if you are on a teachers salary you're not going to be ordering many kobe beef steaks and $100 bottles of wine. The english schools are pretty decent as well

Surely you jest about the traffic? I have spent quite long periods of my life trying to get through 'baya in a car.
