You learn something new every day! I had no idea such places even existed in this day and age! Schools yes, but universities?

That said, some years after leaving HCT, I got an email from some of my ex-students who were attending the small women's university which is a branch of Georgetown University in Washington, DC. I lost contact so I don't know if they finished an MA or not. A women only Catholic university had convinced their families to let a batch of them attend.

Strange!
How come a Muslim family from UAE accepts that their daughter to attend a Catholic university which is faithful to the teachings of Catholicism and prepares men for the priesthood serving dioceses across the US!
Unless, this university did not mention anything about Catholicism to the parents of your ex-student? Laughing

BTW, VS, I thought Catholic universities in USA have both men and women mixed in their campuses, like the Catholic University Of America! Where is this women only Catholic university? And does it have any women bishops? Laughing

Dear 007,
As you know, there are Muslim parents in the UK bigger cities who send their children to a Catholic or C of E school if there is no suitable Islamic school in the area because they believe it has some moral/religious values even if not the "right"ones. Children of the Book and all that. I did that with my Muslim daughters with their father's approval.

Coming back to eyes: does your theory mean that if I spend time back in the ME I could get brown eyes? My half ME daughter has blue eyes - so how does that figure?

Well, the educational school system in UK is different from that in USA.
One criteria, in addition to the interview, to be accepted in a UK Catholic school is that the parents of the child should be Catholics and attend a Mass (criteria which is open to abuse!).

No. The colour of the eyes are not reversible! Laughing

Well, this is due the mix genes (DNA) in her blood; she got the blue colour from the gene of one of her parents or grand parents! Laughing

Mission accomplished! Laughing

But NCTBA... if we don't feed you, you will just fade quickly away. Laughing

Littleoldlady is exactly right. This small college does not force its students to take religion classes, but Muslim parents are correct to realize that it does keep its students in a more protected conservative women-only environment. There are actually a few small colleges like this in the US... and they recruit female students from the Gulf. I actually was a temp in their accounting department for a couple months one year before I was in education. I had no idea it existed either.

A lot of institutions in KSA and UAE accept students onto degree programmes with a 500 TOEFL (instiutional) or IELTS 5.0. Then they graduate without having their exit English measured. Many universities in the UK/N.America rely on funds from foreigners/aliens and will allow students without the minimum 6.0 IELTS (engineering) or 6.5/7 IELTS(arts) to enroll if they have the funds to support themselves. The fact that they have a degree from their own country is normally never questioned.

For what its worth, I am currently working with Omani colleauges at SQU, all of whom took their first degree at SQU.

One has recently finished her doctorate at Lancaster University, another did her doctorate at Essex, the third has just completed his doctorate at Bristol.

One of my own students in the Royal Air Force of Oman, having graduated in Enginnering from SQU successfully completed a Masters degree at the University of Toulouse. Another RAFO officer did his doctorate there.

Lancaster, Essex, Bristol, Toulouse - none of these universities is anything like a degree mill, reliant on overseas students to kep going. If people graduate from these institutions, it's because they deserved the degree.
