I have a TESOL certificate and a few years experience teaching ESL overseas, but no degree. If I did a DELTA course would I get a job in a language school in Australia, without having a degree? I want to further my studies to be able to teach in Oz and I would prefer to study online or by distance. Any suggestions are welcome. Oh, and I am Australian. |

A DELTA is looked on favourably by Australian language schools, but I don't know if NEAS requires an underpinning degree.
Do some research of the body that regulates ESL in Australia to see what basic educational requirements for ESL/EFL teachers are. The Distance DELTA is said to be a good option (I did a face-to-face one), although it includes some on-site components as well. Either way, it's a lot of work and requires a serious, long-term commitment to get through. |

this is the webpage for english australia which controls esl teaching here. i think you do need a BA first, plus a tesl certificate of some sort. theyre the bare minimums.

There used to be a provision that these type of schools could have 10% of teachers without the proper quals if they were being 'overseen'. I believe this is still true as I know a teacher currently doing a degree but still employed. I don't want to give you the wrong info. You might have to check with NEAS |
