|
|
Hi,
I got an initial offer as a lecturer at the College of Applied Science, Nizwa. Its over a month that I have sent my documents and waiting to get the final offer. Few days back I called the COAS office and the person responsible said that he had sent my files to the ministry and waiting get the approval. He doesnt know when the approval may come.
-Does anyone how it works?
-Isnt the academic session starts in late September?
-Should I still wait for the final offer?
-If I eventually get the final offer how much time I may get to prepare? I have to give one month notice to my present employer.
Ill appreciate if someone can shed some light. |

It's Ramadhan. I believe that officially all government schools and universities have moved their classes to start after the Eid... or late September. That is about all that can be said with any confidence at all.
Truly... there is no way to predict when or if or how this will turn out. The Ministry works on its own time. You must decide if you can wait and when or if to give notice. Unfortunately situations like this are not unusual in the Gulf.

Thanks VS.
I don't think i can afford giving notice prior to receiving the final offer. This is quite confusing though |

I received a mail saying that my file has been approved by the ministry. Asked me to submit attested copies of degrees and a medical certificate to process visa and ticket. Also asked me to let them know my joining date. |

Hi,
I have received my final approval from MOHE for the post of Lecturer @ COAS on 28th of september. The personnel dept. has asked for my medical certificate, attested degree copy, and my probable joining date.
- when will I know my place of work? (whether sohar, nizwa, ibri,...)
- how to confirm that iam employed by MOHE & not through any recruiter?
- when can I expect to get my contract papers?
- how many days will it take to get family visa after my joining duty?
- can I sponsor my aged Parent?
- I need to serve my 3 months notice period @ my current Job. Can I join at the end of December? Am I expecting too much?

Congrats Yoga,
I think you have to call them up and ask them all the questions. When I asked them they said my place would be at Nizwa and wanted me to join there ASAP. However, I told them that my current employer requires one month notice. They agreed, nevertheless, requested me to expedite the process. Also told me that they need my medical certificate first to process visa, and I can carry my other papers with me.
wish you all the best. |

As meshibli says, these are all questions that only your employer can answer. There are a number of strange details in this post. First off, most married couples that I know arrived together. But, this may be a detail of what kind of passports you have and whether it is the the wife or husband that needs to be sponsored. (nor have I ever heard of any "medical certificate" being required in Oman) I wonder if this is an anomaly from this particular recruiterer or has the MOHE instituted these changes on all of their recruiter jobs.
Getting more than a short-term visit visa for your parent may be a problem. There is the issue of medical coverage.
It is only my opinion, but I don't think that a late December arrival would be a major problem since it would get you there in time for the second semester.

I have asked all my queries (piece of advice from VS) to the Personnel Department, who has asked for my date of joining and medical certificate, on 10th of October. I haven't received any reply from the Personnel Department till date (10 days passed). My Employer asks me to stay till december end. I need some kind of Job proof to convince my Employer. I haven't sent my Medical Certificate and Attested Highest Degree. What will follow next? Will my Final Offer be cancelled? I am ready to forego this Job offer for my aged father. I can't leave him behind and work in Oman.

All you can do is keep asking until they answer. Make sure that you are completely clear with them on the fact that you need to bring your father. This may be a deal breaker for them. In fact, I would discuss this with a nearby Omani Embassy if I could. I just don't know what the visa issues would be for a parent. Renewing a tourist visa requiring flying to Dubai or something would be expensive and perhaps difficult for your father.

kind gesture VS
I have asked for clarification on my Dad's visa, my place of appointment, and a proof of Job offer. I attended Telephonic Interview on 17th June this year for the post of Lecturer and got selected. I need to know whether Iam directly recruited by MOHE.
Recently I got promoted as Assitant Professor in my current job. Now I am in a dilemma whether to resign my AP post and Join as Lecturer.
Hi Mesbi, what is your status? have you received your Air Tickets?
Good Luck ! |

Professionally, it might be better for you to get 2-3 years on your CV at that level and then apply for a higher position. I'm not that up on the politics/pay scales of PhD jobs, but that might be something to think about.

Hi Yoga,
I haven't got the visa or ticket yet. But expect to get them end of this month.
Did you talk to them over phone about your queries? My experience shows that they are not good at replying to mails.
best wishes.

Good news!!! I have been informed that my place of work is NIZWA and they said it will take 2-3 weeks to get family visa. But they didnt clarify about providing Parent Visa. ("this is the only thing that haunts me")
My current employer has asked for 3 months notice period. I want to join next semester. I have been asked to inform my Programme Director about my date of joining. I need to know the reopening date of college for the next semester.
Please suggest me a date in the beginning of Jan 2010, so that I may get time to settle in my new job.

Congratulations! Nizwa isn't a bad place to live and work.
Before I did any planning, I would make sure that you can get a visa for your father. "Family visa" includes wife and children, but most likely no further. You need to get this in writing from the employer and I would confirm it with the closest Omani Embassy before handing in my notice. I would also confirm whether/how he would get medical coverage. That may require you purchasing one of those worldwide insurance policies on your own.
As to the date, check with the employer as to the start of the second semester (do they have a website?) and I would suggest that you try to get there a couple weeks before if you can.
