|
|
What are the benefits of using tefl job placement (the one through bridge tefl)? I am thinking about going to Costa Rica and I was wondering if it would be worth it to go through a placement service. Does anyone have any good or bad experiences with tefl job placement? Are there any other similar job placement services? |

Would it simply not be better to contact employers directly?
There is no shortage of opportunities to contact them online by applying for jobs advertised on websites such as Dave's and TEFL.com, to name but two.
It is perhaps best to cut out the middle person in one's search for jobs or placements and instead use one's own initiative and resources to find what it is you're looking for.
If you do your own homework, you are less likely to end up with something that has been recommended to you by someone else, only to find that you have been landed a raw deal and put in a somewhat compromising position, especially financially, such as a situation where you haven't even got the cash to buy an air ticket to leave the country you've gone to if everything has gone horribly wrong.
Try the direct approach - it's always worked for me! |

From what I hear, it is difficult to get a job in Costa Rica online and without going in person. That also makes me wonder how tefl job placement is able to do that... |

I imagine that there must be some organizations which necessarily have contacts and operate through such placement services, especially those for current and potential (e.g., GAP Year) university students.
I regularly receive online newsletters from the Goabroad.com website and they always offer placements in exotic places around the globe, possibly including Costa Rica. You may want to have a glance at that website to see if there is anything that you might want to do, such as a programme whereby you can volunteer on some sustainable development project, live with a local family, learn the local lingo and teach the kids English - something like that.
Bear in mind that you may have to be prepared to pay a fee for placement, though, whereas you should not have to pay a penny for finding jobs directly with employers. |
