|
|
I'll be leaving for Thailand shortly and don't want to carry a lot of stuff with me.
What 2 TEFL training books would be recommended for a new teacher to use when finished with TEFL Certification?
Collections of lesson plan outlines?
Any advice would be appreciated.
Thanks, DZ |

Hi dwightz,
I brought 3 books to China with me, they are-
Teaching English as a Foreign Language - David Riddell
Learning Teaching - Jim Scrivener
The Practice of English Language Teaching -Jeremy Harmer
I would recommend Riddell and one of the others, however in hindsight I would like to have also brought a really good grammar book!
Hope this helps |

All of those books and more are available in BKK.
This isn't like the Sudan.
U certainly need a grammar book (also available). I am still learning grammar after 17 yrs of TEFL-ing.
Yr course tutors will have a set book (like Harmer), so u shd wait until u get here and not worry.
Lesson plans--many online if u google. IMO you need to be able to devise your own and to understand how a lesson 'runs'. A lesson plan is not always like a recipe to be followed. You always modify or vary.

Dont forget you are dealing with Thai teachers, and they want to see your course syllabus before you submit it for approval. Yes they might change it, because a lot of them dont understand grammar. Case in point I had this one PhD looked at mine, and told me that it was Department of Language, so I tried to explain to her that if it was reversed Language Department then she would be correct. I am wrong so I mixed it up with her, so she had a PhD she won. Later on one of her friends pointed out to her that she was wrong, and I did not say anything. This was at a university. |
