I have met Peter Bol, the most experienced China hand, though now he is retired to NZ. I also met Carol aka wozal17, and have been meeting her many times ever since.
Had friendly personal phone chats or email exchanges with wOzfrom Oz, Chinasyndrome, ESLGuru and MyTurnNow.
Others I can't mention for privacy reasons, though I have good memories of most of them.
One "Dan" from Canada, later in Shanghai, was one of many that asked me to see them in Guangzhou, which I did, though it was not in any way in my interest. And yaco still owes me that beefsteak with a Guiness if he ever has the time...

I have met Roger, fantastic interesting bloke. The strange thing is when I first posted on this board, I was feeling burnt out and his was the first response and it was quite unsympathetic and I thought you bastardf but we have met many times and he is such a great guy.
Roger, do you still l want to go to Macau, I need to play some serious blackjack.

Haven't met anyone but would love to. There's a thread on the Japan forum about getting together in Niigata--all are welcome, although I know it's not one of the more popular destinations...

Seriously, if any of you are ever in or near Niigata, PM me. I'd be delighted to meet any/all of you!

I met Nomadder last year. It was a lot of fun. We must have talked non-stop for two straight hours. I'd love to meet other people from Dave's, but I'll have to do a background check first just to make sure you aren't serial killers. I'm sure you understand. Wink

Most of all, I'd like to meet the big Dave himself. I was hoping to get to the TESL conference in New Brunswick in May, but it's in Bathurst (practically in Quebec!), so a little far for me to travel. Sad I mean, come on...Bathurst? What's wrong with Halifax??? Cool

I'd love to meet with any one with fluent english and a not-chinese accent. You all seem like super nice folks.
I'm thinking about traveling to Xi'an over the May break, but I'm a little freaked as I've never travelled China by myself. Shocked
If you live in Xi'an, I'll probably be pming you soon to pump any information out of you I can. Very Happy
Maybe, if anyone is game, we can meet while I'm in the area.
Oh, and if anyone is ever in Chengde (we have the "Mountain Resort to Escape the Heat" and the world's largest Wooden Budda, you haven't lived till you've seen that, hee hee Very Happy Wink) feel free to PM me. I'd love to get together. I have a pretty comfortable couch and I'm a nice person.
Sad The other FTs in town don't call me anymore, because I told one of them to screw off. He kept trying to get me drunk so I would go home with him. I told him 100 times that I wasn't interested (ICK!), but he just wouldn't lay off. Finally I decided it's not respectful or being a friend if you try to do that. So, I told him where to go and how to get there. Now no one calls. Sad
I could call them, but as I insulted their friend and I'm the only female FT in town, I feel a little weird.
So, if anyone's going to Chengde be sure to drop me a note.

I PMed a poster once asking for their phone number, when I was in the area they live in, hoping to get some local knowledge.

I got a reply saying they were afraid to give out their number.....

`oh well.....

As Capergirl said, we met for a few hours and had fun. I like to think Im nicer in person than I am here at times. Wink Im in Guatemala and heading south so if anyone is enroute drop me a line. I promise I wont bite. Laughing
