Why ridiculous? There have been plenty of cases of fiddled medical exams. |

Dear rjbsd,
If you're in the States, just google Department of Health for your city:
Example: http://www.health.state.nm.us/

| The department of health told me to call the licensing board in Austin. I hope I don't have to mail these forms to Austin. |

You mean like somebody falsifying the form? Signing a doctor's name? |

What gets me is that it seems so counter-productive, time-wasting, and virtually needless to have the same tests done twice: one in the country of hire and then again after one enters the Kingdom.
And I don't see how it would net falsifiers, who, if they falsify, would do so in their country of hire anyway and then foolishly hope that they'd pass the tests in Saudi.
Why not just do the tests in the Kingdom, after having made it clear to those being hired that should they fail the tests, they would owe the company their plane fare over and also have to pay their own plane fare back?
Regards,
John |

I am actually glad to have the tests here. I have a few health problems and feel better knowing I passed everything before giving up my apartment and job.
I talked to the licensing board in Austin. They are going to send me a stamped, verification of my doctors license. I will just attach this to each copy. Actually, I asked for 3 copies and told her make sure to stamp, seal, whatever she can do. I noticed the KSA really likes seals, and stamps, and gold and silver pretty things. |

Right. You don't have a medical for the visa. So you give up your job in the States, tell your wife to give her notice in and not register the kid for school, and set off for Saudi without a medical.
On arrival you find you have any one of a large number of symptomless diseases, HIV positive, Hep B or C, or TB, for example. You then are shipped back to the States (at your own expense according to your plan) where you find yourself without a job (and of course without any medical coverage for you and your family as you gave that up with the job) and with a disease that might need expensive treatment (AIDS if you have to buy your drugs in the States, Hep C, MDRTB (the normal version luckily is cheap to medicate for), or a few more I may have forgotten about.
Are you sure this is the situation you want, John. |

Now, about those 'outdated stereotypes of what being a married woman entails...' |

Dear Stephen,
Unless I'm much mistaken, I believe it's the way they do it in the UAE. A potential employee to the Kingdom would need to ensure that he/she was reasonably healthy, which would, admittedly, require an individual to have some degree of responsibility. But at least all the paperwork, red tape, raised seals, contradictory instructions, etc. would be eliminated.
Regards,
John |

| The guy who hired me from the Uni just emailed me saying I will do all the med tests in KSA. So that means only once. Ill be picking up my visa here in Seoul, rather than go all the way back to America. |

| I think you'll find Seoul will demand all the medical tests. |

Well that is a real fly in the ointment, then, isn't it. How I hate needles and barely got thru the bloodwork here in Korea last year, stayed at the same hagwon in order to avoid another bloodwork deal had I accepted an offer from a public school, though it was for only 5% higher salary.
Stephen Jones, is the poster who implied utter Saudi ineptitude at drawing blood/drawing 125 cc as well, telling the truth or exaggerating there?
125 cc...hmmmm..not good, not good. |
