30k a month in novosibirsk is really good if you have a room mate. You could even save quite a bit with that salary. |

That's really encouraging to hear, thanks Mike. I'm not planning on being too extravagant so hopefully I'll have a few rubles left over for a rainy day. All the best. |

Do keep in mind that you won't be able to live by yourself on that salary. You need to ensure that the school provides accommodation or that you secure a roommate in advance. It's very very difficult to find an apartment for less than 20,000 in Novosibirsk (unless you're willing to live REALLY far from the center and even then the prices do not drop by that much) and food, clothing and other basic things are not cheap. If you can arrange the living situation in advance, you'll do well with 30,000 |

In my experience it was easy to find a place under 20k. There's a lot even in the center for 15-20 and one room + kitchen etc... for 11-14. Especially good deals since the economic crisis, I moved a month ago cause I found the same exact apartment, in the center, one building over actually, for 30% less per month. |

Maybe I'm missing something here. You're talking about having to pay rent out of your salaries. Licensed educational establishments in Russia are required by law to provide free accommodation to foreign English teachers. Or am I to assume that you're not on teachers' visas? |

Thanks a lot for the replies. The package I've been offered includes an apartment. I'm not sure if this is a legal requirement on the school's part but they have been very clear on that from the outset.
Apparently the apartment could best be described as 'rustic' so I'm definitely not expecting a luxury pad. I'm quite looking forward to living the simple life though - I might even grow a beard, wear a green army surplus jumper and write bad Russian poetry. |

Just curious as to how your apartment turned out to be and the job; is it stable/consistant?
Are you getting paid enough to get by and enjoy yourself?
thanks!
