I'm seeing this on every... single... job offer...

Anyway, I don't want to have to go to Japan before I have a job. I will if absolutely necessary but I don't want it to come to that, in fear that I will end up with nothing after three months. I have a lot to lose!

I've applied for numerous jobs that say they're hiring from within Japan only through the Interac website (all of them say that). I made it clear that I am able to attend any interviews or seminars they require.

What other websites/dispatches should I try? I'm going to hit up Gaijinpot next.

How committed to this "only from within Japan" thing are these employers? do you think they'll consider someone from outside Japan but close to Japan before they consider people on the other side of the world?

However, some employers do not hire from within Japan. AEON, ECC, the JET program, Language House, James English School and Westgate Corporation recruit teachers overseas. (Recently, JET has allowed applications from within Japan, but the interview process is still required in your home country.) Getting hired from your home country is still not as simple as it may sound. You will have to travel to the interview site, which may be quite a distance from where you live, and pay for the travel and lodging yourself. Sometimes such interviews last 2-3 days. The JET Program hiring process takes months (from the December deadline for applications to the July/August date that all successful applicants fly together to Japan). Look at each employer�s web site for details.

Also try W5, Altia Central, Border Link. As it gets closer to Dec/Jan you will see more ALT positions listed. All of the dispatch companies for the most part hire outside of Japan. Watch the job listings here and at gaijinpot.

You click "submit application" and you're done.

Because the form is designed for overseas hirers there is no question asking what visa you hold; only one drop down box on the last page saying "one of the following applies to me". The options are 'university degree', 'will graduate within 6 months', 'Internship applicant', 'Eligible for Working Holiday visa' and 'Valid work visa for Japan'.

Obviously, you are doing something wrong, since it's working just fine for me.

I haven't applied to Interac, but I think the way it generally works with companies hiring from overseas is that there aren't any specific jobs for you, they just hire you and plug you wherever they have an opening that they can't fill with in-country people. That's how the big eikaiwas do it, anyway. You're almost certainly not going to be applying to specific jobs; you've probably already submitted your application and are just supposed to wait for them to contact you.

Sounds as though you might have submitted what you needed to and then just kept going trying to find something you simply aren't going to find.

As Bread said, Interac doesn't list positions avaliable to overseas recruits. They can't guarentee that they will still have the contracts for any of the thousands of placements they have the following spring, so there is no way they could advertise individual posts even if they wanted to.

Besides in any dispatch company worldwide, the workers don't choose where they work. The company receives a request for workers, and the company sends whoever they think is appropriate. Interac is no different. The may try to match your preferences to a placement if they can, but if they can't, they won't lose any sleep over it; they'll just send you where your needed.
