Hi all,
I've just joined Dave's and was wondering if anyone has heard of Real English in Yogyakarta. I've been offered a job there (or at 1 of their new schools that are opening up early next year), and would like some info if possible.
Thanks guys,
Mandy. |

Hi
My boyfriend and I are sorting out our visas with them at the moment. Haven't found any info on them on this site, but have had a look on their website and have had loads of emails from Ray Fussell who seems really nice! When are you planning on arriving in Yogya? |

Hi Munchie,
No, I didn't. I decided on a National Plus school in Kalimantan. Like you, I liked the sound of Ray. But that's where it ended. I spoke with a couple of teacher's who'd had experience working there, and they advised me to give it a wide berth.
I heard of 1 teacher who was told to pick up her visa in Malaysia on her way over from the States, and she ended up spending an unplanned month there waiting for it to be completed as Real stuffed up the paperwork. To make matters worse she was only reimbursed 500,000 Rupiah for her costs and trouble - no wages either
Look elsewhere is my advice. Goodluck and all the best .... |

I worked in Yogya a few years back, with the EF crowd. Many of the teachers moved to Real English, and they were a great bunch of people; helpful and professional.
Yogya is the nicest of the four cities I worked in over six years, but the pay on offer from EF was pretty awful and no help with housing at all.
We rented a lovely cottage south of the city for $400 for a year. That was five week's pay.
Some schools do make housing available for teachers at a reasonable rent but not EF Yogya. don't know about Real English.
TBI Malang made houses available for a very reasonable rent, as they are owned by the University. The down side were the Uni students. They were certainly not chosen for their academic ability. Evening classes were great, with 'normal' students.
The campus and the TBI section were luxurious. |
