Hi All
Does anyone know about the current situation in DC? Does it now take a little longer to get visa stamp since the Hajj is coming up in November?
Sorry if this sounds redundant, it's just that most happen or do not happen more or less the way you think they would.
I do think that my employer has a certain amount of wasta though. Maybe that's a good sign. (Because he took care of another issue with DC rather quickly).

Id guess up to 6 working days. If it were me, Id go for Motel 6, as that housing bill could add up quick in DC. |

I've been waiting a few months and all i get is not yet not yet
still waiting
But its Saudi Arabia, not Japan
I think the embassy must be understaffed and overloaded. |

You've been waiting months to get your visa stamped? And you've let them keep your passport all that time?
I find that hard to believe. Saudi embassies aren't always the smoothest operators - to put it mildly - but the 'stamping' part of the procedure is usually easy. True, I've never dealt with the washington embassy but if your papers are in order the embassies normally stamp the visa within 48 hours. If you have 'wasta' you can get it done pretty much on the spot! |

They had problems with the first criminal background document I provided then my university was slow sending a letter verifying my contract and salary cause they wanted employment verification letters from japan which are nearly impossible to get during the summer holidays and then one letter mysteriously disappeared after it was mailed. It has been a slow and frustrating process. I feel like a guilty man proving my innocence.
Hopefully, I will get it by the end of the month. |

I'm going on two weeks now waiting for a response. I've been told they are backed up right now due to Hajj.
Hope to get an answer some time this week. It would really suck not being able to cash in on the upcoming paid holiday. |

the holidays run till about Dec 4 from Nov 18 or 19
so it seems logical to me that they would bring us in around Dec 1 to 3
Why pay a group of teachers for 2 weeks extra to be on holiday? |

As far as I know, the holiday is from 11/26 - 12/4 for universities (can't speak for other places).
I am hoping the employer sees this time as an opportunity for new teachers to come in, get settled, find accommodation, etc. without having to worry about classes temporarily.
I know at my employer last year they brought in new people close to the time of one of the holiday breaks, so the idea is not completely inconceivable. |
