Fantastic! Good to know! When they were legal, cloves usually weren't available at regular gas stations or convenience stores, either. I always had to go to tobacco stores or "haji" marts. I feel very much reassured now! Thanks!
Now, how do I make these two cartons last until I (hopefully) leave for Japan in Feb/March.....hmmm... |
Definitely available. Could even get them in the tin! 60 in a tin, awesome! |

| Fabulous. Do you happen to know the price? They were running about $7-10 USD toward the end there, before they were banned. |

I went for a walk today around Umeda in North Oska City. In Japan there are loads of vending machines on the streets that sell cigarettes. You need to get a "Tasbo" card to use them as a proof of ID. I probably walked past about one hundred vending machines but only three of them sold Garam cigaretes. They are 320 yen which is the same price as other cigaretes. I also walked past a lot of specialist tobaco shops but they weren't open at the tiem. The shops and the vending machines are in Kita Shinchi and Higashi dori shooping arcade and maybe also in Ohatsutenjindori. |

I think about 60% of Japanese men smoke and most smoke one or two packs a day I think its the stress
but a smokers paradise I think not
Cigarettes are way way way cheaper in Laos. They are far from cheap in Japan. Maybe cheap compared to Europe but not compared to Lao where you can buy cigarettes for about 2 cents or 40 cents a pack or 4 dollars a carton Just go to the duty free shops on the border
I always pick up two cartons(the per person limit) as gifts for my visiting Japanese or European friends or my poor Thai friends. I don't smoke myself. |

this is one of my pet hates
and yes, Japan (from my years of experience) is bad for smoking
it always amazes me how intelligent people smoke (I am esp talking about people who do know better = doctors etc)
and of course heaps of other "normal" Japanese smoke
its so cheap here but mighyt change soon?
I can't stand it |

I'm going to quit smoking when I head over to Japan. I visited some friends in Edogawa (close to Funabashi, I believe, a Tokyo suburb) and found that smoking was pretty much prohibited everywhere. When I was in Tokyo I rarely saw people smoking on the streets so I abstained for a long time until I saw a proper smoking corner or booth.
As a smoker even I couldn't stand the smoking rooms in the Narita airport (an airport that I've been through so many times I'm frankly sick of it) or the one box I went to in Yokohama where there were so many people and so much smoke that you felt sick just standing in there. |
