I got myself a job with Aston at there school in Xuzhou. Can anyone with experience or who has worked in Xuzhou with Aston or with another school tell me about it. I am only going for 6 months, but would like any info.

I have searched the forum about it, but most posts are 5 years old and not much info on more recent posts.

Also which is closer to Jinan, Beijing or Shanghai??

I guess a last thing to add for people who know, but what are prices like in Xuzhou.

i dont know about jinan, but shanghai on a fast train is 5 hours and 8/9 on a sleeper i thin k beijing is near enough the same maybe just a little longer. Xuzhou train station is a bit of a major train hub so its quite easy to get to most places and very cheap. Some journeys are long though(china is big)

hope this help, when are you coming

I'm studying some sample Aston contracts tonight. They currently offer 4 packages:

6mths/20hrs/1wk/5000rmb
6mths/25hrs/2wks/6200rmb
12mths/20hrs/1wk/5000rmb
12mths/25hrs/2wks/6200rmb

3-day weekends are guaranteed.

Vacation planning appears highly inflexible, restricted to certain windows in the contract, requiring one month advance notice, taken in maximum one-week chunks and no more than one proper weekend taken at a time.

4-page contract with lots of weasel clauses. Then again, that's how corporations operate. There may be some teachers who like that much control, but not the goatsucker.

One thing to always keep in mind about Aston is that since they advertise so heavily on this site, only a portion of the bad news about them gets posted. And, because of how easily and quickly they hire first-time teachers and then put them in a "managerial" position, they are bound to have their fair share of admirers.

In general, if you are a relatively experienced instructor with fairly high standards about the material you teach with, discipline of poor puerile students, comfortable housing, etcetera, etcetera; you can do much better in China than this outfit.
