Hi all. I am a new esl teacher certified in Arizona. I am considering the international option. From what I am hearing, it seems that pay in Turkey is decent. Is it possible to support a wife and kid on the typical salary, given cost of living? Thanks. |

Yes, but not without experience. You won't be able to get those jobs right away. I'd try to get a couple years in at community colleges in your area (if possible) before you take a family abroad. My 2 kuruş. |

Well on 2000-2500 ytl/mo., with a wife and kids, I'd say don't try it, and not just in Turkey, but ANYWHERE!!!!!!!!
That's about $1,333 USD/mo., which is not good for anything but a very frugal single or couple, if that. Let's say rent is half that amount, about $650-700/mo. and that's hoping electric, gas, water, trash, cable TV, telephone, parking, etc. are part of that number.
That leaves 650 bucks to use for transportation, food, laundry, household items like toilet paper, soap, shampoo, razor blades, diapers (since you may have really young kids), etc.
Do the math, you'll see taking wife and kids into that would be cutting it quite close indeed. |
