Incidentally, out of many countries visited, the only place where we've experienced negative attitudes about her race/nationality was Vietnam. Apparently, to many people there, attractive Asian woman + white man = hooker. |
I fear that this is a problem in many places... especially those where there is a homogeneous culture. To add to it, prostitution seems to have been outsourced. Many racially mixed couples encounter this. Irritating for her, of course, but for any of us who leave the safety of our own culture, we have to deal with the whole stereotypes thing...

I know 3 expat families who are living in Nzwa who have their children (ages 4 to 15) in local schools in Nizwa and Izki. The younger ones are doing well and speaking Arabic (yet one 4 yr old picked up the spitting habit which had to be dealt with). The older ones are doing fine in the Indian and Pakistani schools. I know of another family who choose to homeschool. It all seems to work for them. |

Ah, that's another topic--schools. I hear the international ones are quite expensive. Do the universities or other employers provide any education allowance or subsidy? |

For everyone's information: it seems SQU does provide tuition for kids, but they seem to be alone in this. |
