10% extra is not enough to compensate for the 100% extra boredom Wink

Yea, we all know Jeddah, Dhahran and Riyadh are a bundle of laughs.

I think you'll find that's the normal reason any salary is paid at all.

I have an odd feeling that I might enjoy the boredom. Although I've not been to KSA so it's hard to say at this point. I am curious about the qualifications/requirements for KFUPM positions. I will only have an MA in Linguistics and a semester of experience teaching at a US language institute.

Thanks,
Mitch

I think we normally prefer a couple of years of experience. The amount of experience also affects your salary.

If you want PM me, and I'll ask the Director if it's worth your while applying.

Trapezius calls it Boredom. I call it Peace and Quiet. And remember "Peace" (="Salaam") is one of the attributes of the Lord.

Compared to Hafr Al Batin, definitely.

I actually like small towns and villages. I can go a whole month without any human contact, and I wouldn't mind. But for most people coming from abroad, living in a small basic Saudi town for long periods would probably be pretty boring and frustrating.

Hi Stephen,

I have an MA in TESOL

1 year experience at a university (community college program) in Australia.

5 years working at language schools, high schools ect in Japan.

Do you think I would have a chance?

Thanks

The visa process is protracted and seriously affected my decision not to work there. Having said that it is a methodical process and I was informed at every stage. Of all the jobs I considered in the KSA KFUPM was the only one I thought worth going for. The people I dealt with were honest and direct and the staff I contacted were informative and positive. I know that perhaps there are better deals advertised and certainly there are vets on this board who will suggest alternatives in the KSA and those who will suggest alternative countries in the ME but with the qualifications you have you should have no problems anywhere in the ME. KFUPM, in my honest opinion is one of the best options to be had in the KSA but then I am no expert in these matters so over to the vets for their sage advice

You see there are so few negative posts about KFUPM. This is clear evidence of a conspiracy to hide the truth. See the thread about KSU/Bell/Obeikan.

I rest my case.
