How about the old guy on a bicycle who rode the streets of Comitan just after dark, blowing a whistle.

I'm not sure what he was supposed to accomplish, or if his behavior was in any way "official", but it did strike me as odd at the time. Confused

He was probably selling something. Here in the thriving metropolis in which I live, there are a number of people who get around town making their own noises...

The guy with the tin flute: mobile knife sharpening service.
The guy with the triangle: little hosts that kids like as snacks (apparently)
The guy with the oogah horn: nieves (mmmmm)

And the best (and weirdest) is this guy who comes around just after dusk every Sunday night with this steam powered whistle machine. There's a little fire in it, and as it heats the whistle gets louder and louder until your ears start to bleed. I think the fire heats the hotplate on the side of the trolley, but I have no idea what he cooks, as I've never seen anybody around when he's there, and I always have to run off in search of first aid. Shocked

Have a good day! Wink

Yummy! The guy with the little whistling oven is selling hot sweet potatoes (I cant remember the word in Spanish). Theyre really good. He cuts em up and puts, of course, cream and sugar on them. Really, really good. I highly recommend them.

Do you have a guy who rides a bike, in the sun, with an aquarium full of dead, plucked chicken in it? Who wouldnt want to buy one of those after hes been pedaling around town in the sun getting the chickens all dirty?

Firstly, WHAT?!? No chili on the sweet potatoes??? Shocked

Secondly, no, but I wish I did, to the chicken man. Might make me go out and buy chicken to eat!

But that did remind me that we DO have blokes walking around with great towers of birdcages on their backs, selling finches, parrots, etc. I mean, they have this backpack arrangement and then about 6 (if not more) birdcages one on top of the other attached to it, so they can walk around without any nasty posture problems. Don't know about poop on their heads though...

When I first arrived in Mexico, I felt like the Jolly Green Giant and I'm only 5' 4"! But...what seemed completely strange were the trucks with "Bimbo" written on the side of them. Little did I know, at the time, that it was the brand name for bread.

I'd just like to state the man with whistle is still at large, I've often wondered if he was a Manc (Person from Manchester, England) from the early ninties who's just got lost looking for the final illegal rave?

Other oddities I've seen in Comitian, full tooled up riot police standing on every other corner. Not a demo in sight or otherwise reason for there presence, just another very very quite day in Comitain.
All the more weird because I think the closest Comitian has been to a riot in recent years was probably when the sweet potatoe man ran out of sweet potatoes.
And werid in general is Comitain, I'm always thinking I'm in a David Lynch film as I walk through. Just too clean and nice!

I was just walking around in the Centro de Idiomas here, and glanced out the office window of one of my colleagues.

There was a really hairy sheep snacking on the brown grass outside. Shocked

And the other week there was a toucan loose on the campus!!
