That's funny. I asked that question at my ECC interview, but got a more 'elaborate' response, not negatively though.. Didn't get the job either way.

I said making aggressive statements was a bad idea in this case. Westgate, other dispatchers and eikawa don't want people who are going to be troublemakers. If you are being what they would consider to be confrontational in the interview, or criticising the terms in the contract when you don't even have the job yet, that's bound to set alarm bells ringing. Why would they take the risk of you rocking the boat when there are 10 more other candidates interviewing for the same position who are ready to bend over backwards for the same crappy terms?

I got outright rejected but I'm not taking it too personally as it seems that this happens to a lot of people.

At least they interviewed you, thats a compliment!

I was beginning to think they were some really elite, high quality and highly sought after "employment opportunity" and then I read what other people who have worked for them had to say. Haha.

At the induction we were told 7 or 8000 people had applied, (I was snoozing at that point), so I wouldn't take it at all personally if you didn't get in. I didn't hear back from them for a while so I emailed them to ask if they were still considering me. They replied offering me a second interview, which got me the job. Other folk only had 1 interview but I had my first interview in my mum's car on a journey, but it must have been ok enough not to have a flat out refusal. I'd agree that any hints of anything but enthusiasm may taint the interview.

Most of the people were quite experienced with an average of 3 years' experience, often in Korea, which I was surprised by when the ads don't ask for very much.

probably not, that's just what they *told* us, plus Westgate advertise continually and also don't ask for much in the advertisements. There's probably a lot of inexperienced people with online/weekend TEFL whose CVs just go straight into the reject pile.

I once saw 145 out of 150 applications for an office admin job go straight in the bin based on spelling/incorrect addressee problems. 'Dear Madame'...

I applied to Westgate recently and got a rejection email without even having an interview. I know I am inexperienced (i have a BA in English and a CELTA, a few years working in public relations but no real teaching experience), but the website was vague about the amount of experience they're looking for. I thought I answered the questions thoughtfully and correctly.

Just wondering what others' experience has been applying for Westgate? I wonder what i can do to make a stronger application down the road?
